Job Summary:
FHI 360โs Global Education, Employment and Engagement (G3E) Business Unit encompasses a vast portfolio of programs working globally in the following technical areas: primary and post-primary education, early childhood development, youth engagement and positive youth development; economic development and livelihoods; environment and climate change; civil society capacity building, media, and peacebuilding; and international exchanges.
The Research & Evaluation (R&E) Department is one of five departments in the G3E Business Unit. R&E serves two functions: 1) Provide monitoring, evaluation, learning and research support for large scale global development projects; and 2) Carry out research to advance FHI 360 thought leadership in global development.
The Senior Research Associate performs research development with senior research staff to develop, implement, manage, and conduct research studies with a focus on measurement and psychometrics. Contributes to design of evaluations and observations, as well as analyzes data and interprets results using quantitative methods and statistics. Supports instrument development and validation. Investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement. Work with senior research staff to develop and implement research studies. Serves in a leadership role for junior staff in the division, providing mentorship, and developing systems to improve work. Works with diverse teams on multiple projects at once. Demonstrated strong mentoring and teamwork skills.
Accountabilities:
Research/Technical
Conducts or oversees literature reviews; prepares search criteria; oversees staff in conducting search and review of articles; develops report and provides synthesis of gaps and opportunities.
Collaborates on study design and drafts research or evaluation protocols.
Collaborates on or leads the development of study documents; drafts data collection tools and oversees documents created by study staff.
Reviews and provides technical assistance on what questions can be answered by available datasets, data management, research ethics, data collection form development or programming, data quality, analysis, and presentation of results both internally and externally.
Contribute to instrument/questionnaire development process.
Validates survey instruments and data collection tools.
Develops training materials or reviews materials developed by study staff; leads or co-leads trainings for study implementation.
Monitors or oversees monitoring of data as it comes in from the field for completeness and accuracy and redresses any issues with data collectors.
May lead a team of analysts to ensure consistent coding; writes coding memos or provides oversight to others.
Mentors more junior staff on analysis and data cleaning; translates complex statistical procedures to lay audiences.
Leads development of dissemination materials including data visualizations for various audiences, and presents or disseminates findings.
May lead small proposals.
Project Management/Coordination
Provides technical assistance and oversight to local research partners throughout the study.
Organizes, plans, and executes events/sessions (e.g., webinars, presentations, and others) designed to advance research/scientific goals.
Tracks study progress and timelines; identifies and communicates potential problems and is responsible for appropriate escalation and resolution.
Applied Knowledge & Skills:
Strong written and oral communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in psychometrics and measurement statistics, evaluation methods (experimental and quasi-experimental), and/or econometrics.
Content expertise in Social and Emotional Learning skills is desirable but not required.
Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is highly desirable.
Education:
Masterโs Degree or its International Equivalent (PhD preferred) in Educational Measurement, Psychometrics, Economics, Public Policy, or a Related Field.
Experience:
Minimum of 8+ years of research or evaluation experience with project management, research methodology, implementation, analysis, and reporting
Experience with study implementation in varied contexts or on various topics.

Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.
Technology to be Used:

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 - $112,000
