FHI 360 seeks qualified candidates for the position Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Adviser for an upcoming, FCDO-funded education program in South Sudan. The duration of the project is five years, and the position will be based in Juba. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project and the selection of the final applicant is subject to FCDO approval.
Position Description:
The SBC Adviser will be an integral member of the project team. Reporting to the SBC Lead, the SBC Adviser will support programmatic and technical aspects related to SBC interventions to ensure they are evidence-based, community-driven, and in line with requirements of the award. The SBC Adviser will:
- Support the design and implementation of evidence-based, community-driven SBC interventions that will lead to positive social and behavior change.
- Identify and build on effective practices and lessons learned from the FCDO funded Girlsโ Education South Sudan program
- Provide technical assistance and support to State Anchors
- Design and develop community outreach initiatives and cascade these to the State Anchors.
- Undertake participatory design workshops for all SBC materials and initiatives.
- Support development or adaptation of radio programming and management of relationships with radio networks.
- Support integration of SBC into the project monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system.
- Support formative research to inform the design of SBC activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the SBC Lead to develop and implement a holistic SBC strategy aligned with project goals.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of formative research to inform the development of SBC activities.
- Support the design and roll out of culturally sensitive and compelling community engagement activities, including implementation tools and materials, aligned with SBC strategy objectives.
- Provide training and on-going coaching to project staff and partners to use the projectโs implementation tools and materials to plan and implement community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with creative agencies and other consultants to develop and implement multi-channel campaigns, which might include radio programs and community theater, aligned with SBC strategy objectives.
- Coordinate on-going monitoring activities to assess the implementation quality of SBC activities and apply learnings strengthen the implementation and/or adjust the SBC strategy to address gaps and emerging needs.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of any evaluations, including baseline, mid-line or end-line studies, to measure the impact of SBC activities on objectives (as outlined in the SBC strategy).
- Contribute to regular reports on SBC activities and contribute to project reporting requirements, such as quarterly and annual reports.
- Oversee community mobilization activities and ensure that they are implemented with fidelity.
- Other assigned tasks to support the SBC Lead to successfully execute FHI 360โs workplan activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelorโs degree or equivalent required in a relevant social science discipline, such as International Communication, Social and Behavior Change Communication, Social Marketing, Public Health, Health Communication, Health Promotion, or Social Sciences, is required. Masterโs degree preferred.
- A minimum of four (4) years of increasing SBC technical expertise.
- Experience working in South Sudan.
Specific Knowledge Requirements:
- Demonstrated understanding of a range of SBC approaches that address change in community norms as well as individual behaviors, and that go beyond messaging to catalyze community action.
- Knowledge of the FCDO funded Girlsโ Education South Sudan program
- Strong understanding of local cultural practices, social networks, and gender and age dynamics strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of education systems in South Sudan is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and transmit his/her vision to partners and colleagues.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, knowledge of local languages preferred.
- Strong team building skills and experience.
- Mentoring and facilitation skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently with initiative to manage high volume workflow.
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in Microsoft Office).
