The main purpose of this position is to provide critical support to the organization's core communications, media & PR functions and to play a key role in shaping the public voice, engagement, and brand awareness of Save the Children (SCC) in Canada.ย  Working under the direction of the Head, Communications, PR & Media, the Senior Communications & PR Specialist is primarily responsible for delivering communications & PR strategies, ensuring that Save the Childrenโ€™s communications and public engagement reflects and conveys the organizationโ€™s mission, values, focus, and identity. The Senior Communications & PR Specialist will work with stakeholders across the organization to develop and deliver compelling communications materials and public engagement campaigns that will inform, engage and mobilize the public to support Save the Childrenโ€™s mission.ย 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

Communications (External)

Develop strategies, and implement creative communications and public engagement plans to inform, engage and mobilize the Canadian public to support Save the Childrenโ€™s mission.ย Develop and drive communications plans to effectively communicate and profile the organizationโ€™s impact.ย Write, review, and edit communication materials including emails, newsletters, blogs, impact stories, and website content.ย Ensure communications materials adhere to SCCโ€™s communications style, brand, and ethical content guidelines.ย Working as a key member of an integrated Communications Unit, collaborate with Marketing, Philanthropy & Partnerships, Advocacy, and Program teams to produce communications materials that support the delivery of our strategy and ensure alignment to Save the Childrenโ€™s public engagement strategy, brand position, visual identity, organizational priorities, and partner/donor requirements.ย Deliver on donor visibility and recognition requirements.Monitor and report on public engagement performance.ย Act as general communications, brand and PR advisor to other departments within SCC

Public Relations Support

Under the direction of the Head of Communications, Media & PR and guided by SCCโ€™s overall Communications, Media & PR strategy, assist with developing and implementing PR initiatives to drive brand awareness and public engagement.ย Responsible for the creation of strategic public engagement messages, materials, and tactical plans to generate awareness and support for Save the Children, liaising with the Head of Communications, Media and PR, and relevant Resource Development, Policy & Advocacy, and Program stakeholders as appropriate.Ensure all PR initiatives reflect and articulate SCCโ€™s goals and vision.Prepare materials to support PR activities, including pitch kits, brand assets, and briefing documents. ย Monitor the news and other public information sources to keep abreast of PR opportunities and reputational risks.ย Project manage PR and influencer partnerships.

Ensure alignment and consistency in SCCโ€™s brand positioning, tone, visual identity, and key messages across the organization.Update and disseminate brand guidelines, communications style guide, and ethical content guidelines and ensure cross-organizational adherence to the guidelines.Develop processes to continually improve all vehicles of communications across departments.ย 

Other duties/Responsibilities as required

Acts as the delegated authority when the Head is out of the office / unavailableSupport the Head, Communications, PR & Media, and Resource Development team with event logistics for SCC Signature events.ย Act as liaison with vendors/suppliersย Track communications and PR related performance and key performance indicators (KPIโ€™s)

Qualifications & Competencies (include but are not limited to):

Bachelor degree preferably in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations, or equivalent work experience in related fieldย Minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ progressive work experience, 2 yearsโ€™ in Senior roleDemonstrated experience managing communications and public engagement campaignsย Experience with digital acquisition and stewardshipย Solid understanding of digital communication reporting toolsย Knowledge of digital, website, and social media best practicesProficient in Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Photoshop, InDesign) an assetย Experience building and maintaining internal and external partnerships and relationshipsExceptional and demonstrable written and oral communications skills in all mediumsย Work effectively, independently and collaboratively with othersย Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to multiple and conflicting priorities and deadlinesย Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required (especially during global humanitarian emergencies involving different time zones)ย Demonstrate strong commitment to Save the Childrenโ€™s Mission, Vision and Values.Adhere to Child Safeguarding policies & proceduresย Subject to police background check: vulnerable sector screeningProficiency in English required, French a highly valued assetComputer literacy including Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
