Job Description

We need you to support and champion creative and innovative solutions working with the children and families in Doomadgee. Doomadgee is a discrete and very remote Aboriginal community in the Gulf of Carpentaria in North Queensland, located on the Nicholson River. Doomadgee is the homelands of the Traditional Owners the Gangalidda and Waanyi people and other Aboriginal people including the Garrawa who have made the community their home deal with some of the most complicated family and social issues in the lives of Aboriginal families. The Children and Family Centre deliver a range of services in early education (Play2Learn, After School Club, School Holiday Programs) working closely with the community members.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, permanent position based in our Doomadgee Children and Family Centre, you will support a team of passionate and talented individuals to accomplish ambitious goals for our children, and families. You will be reporting to the Team Leader for the Children and Family Centre, and have experience working with vulnerable and at-risk families, including those from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. Youโ€™ve worked in community-based programs in the past and have experience supporting staff. Your approach to practice is family-centred, strengths-based and collaborative, and youโ€™ll easily build relationships with community stakeholders.

FIFO arrangements will be considered for candidates that qualify for this role but are not locally based.

You will make an impact by:

Supporting and developing a dedicated and driven team Supporting the design, implementation and monitoring of our programs Building relationships with the local community and confidence in our programs Providing practical support, mentoring and advocacy for young people and their families with complex needs Organising successful back to country day trips and activities
