Job Description

Weโ€™re looking for someone who wants to change the world! We have a massive ambition for children and weโ€™re seeking a dynamic risk management leader to help us achieve our strategic goals in the Pacific and beyond. In this critical role, youโ€™ll take the lead in strengthening risk management across our international operations by embedding risk management into decision making at all levels, enhancing our operational resilience and strengthening our incident response capability. We need you to understand the complexity of our work and proactively help us to manage the uncertainty which stands between us and our Vision for children.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

Weโ€™re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for childrenโ€™s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if thereโ€™s a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict โ€“ we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, permanent position โ€“ ideally based in Melbourne, though other locations will be considered - you will work collaboratively across multiple teams based in Australia and overseas to ensure that our risk management, business continuity and incident response practices are fit for purpose. You will be part of our Group Operations and report to our Head of Enterprise Risk.

You will make an impact by:

Actively participating in strategic planning to ensure that risk identification and mitigation inform decision making. Working with our International Programs leadership team to design, develop and enable effective oversight of risks, including regular review of controls for effectiveness. Supporting front line teams to identify, record, mitigate and manage risk, including coaching and supporting teams to understand, access, leverage and apply risk tools. Proactively assisting our Pacific leaders with business continuity planning, including undertaking scenario analysis, business continuity subplan development and testing. Effectively managing any incidents of fraud, bribery or corruption, including undertaking investigations into higher severity breaches of our policies. Leading and nurturing a risk management Community of Practice to grow our organisational capability and ensure a strong risk management culture.

Does this sound like you?

You are passionate about helping us to achieve our strategic goals through implementation of rigorous and contemporary risk practices. Youโ€™re a rare individual with the emotional intelligence to engage and support stakeholders at all levels to drive continuous improvement in a complex organisation and regulatory landscape. You are a confident and clear communicator, with the judgement to help stakeholders make riskโ€‘aware decisions in a world of uncertainty.

This role requires:

5+ yearsโ€™ experience in risk management positions, in either the corporate or NFP sectors. Thorough understanding of the Australian Standards / New Zealand Standards ISO 31000:2018 โ€“ Risk management โ€“ Guidelines. Proven ability to deliver high quality training and capacity building in different cultural contexts and with distributed teams. Demonstrated investigations experience. Excellent stakeholder engagement track record, including experience working in a Pacific or international context.

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.
