DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the State of Climate Services Report Series.
The incumbent will perform the following duties:

(a) Designing and creating impactful infographics and visual presentations of the report's findings;

(b) Collaborating closely with the graphic designer tasked with the report's final layout for publication and distribution;

(c) Refining and editing the report's content into a concise format of 30-40 pages (including Annexes), utilizing accessible language to ensure broad accessibility and appeal to member states, development partners, climate finance bodies, and adaptation experts;

(d) Identifying compelling case studies for inclusion in the report to illustrate key points vividly;

(e) Assisting in the report's completion and dissemination in accordance with UNFCCC submission requirements;

(f) Developing engaging content for social media platforms to promote the report's launch;

(g) Carry out other relevant duties as required.

Deliverables

• Workplan within 1 week from the contract start.

• First draft of the State of Climate Services report including graphics (intermediate draft by 1 June) - by 1 July 2024.

• Final State of Climate Services report with graphics - by 15 September 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree in arts, political science, international relations, journalism or a closely related field.
Experience
1. Experience in communications and public affairs.

2. Experience in one of the five priority areas of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS): disaster risk reduction, health, agriculture and food security, water, energy.

3. Previous experience in report writing.

4. Prior working experience with UN Agencies will be an added advantage.

Other requirements

4. Ability to conduct research and analysis and strong synthesis skills.

7. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.

8. Ability to write reports particularly for the UN.

9. Demonstrates ability to manage complexities and work under pressure, as well as conflict resolution.

10. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

The Secretary-General may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance. Additional Information:
