DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) organised the WCRP Open Science Conference 2023 at the Kigali Convention Centre in Kigali (Rwanda) on 23-27 October 2023, hosted by the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), on behalf of the Government of Rwanda.

This event brought together diverse research communities, programmes and partners to discuss the latest developments in climate science, with an emphasis on science-based information for decision making. WCRP is looking at innovative ways to bridge science and society and to foster future climate science leadership, through workshops, public exhibits, forums, and other associated events.

This event at the heart of the African continent allowed strong engagement with research communities, stakeholders and practitioners in Rwanda and the region. This was facilitated by joint efforts with local partners, such as the Rwanda Meteorology Agency and the University of Rwanda.

Now the conference is over we need to provide various technical and other reports to the many sponsors and the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee. This includes a detailed \"lessons learned\" and summary report both for our founders and for future conferences.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To draft a detailed summary and \"lessons learned\" report covering aspects such as:
• Site selection
• Staffing and support
• Committees and how they functioned
• Scientific Program and how it was developed
• Website
• Sponsorship
• Hybrid platform – what worked and what didn’t
• Professional Conference Organizer
• Poster & poster clusters
• ECR poster and other competitions
• Side events
• Registration
• Participation
• On site coordination/staffing
• Catering
• Hotels & Transport
• Conference dinner

2. Working with the H/WCRD to provide input into various sponsor-required technical documents (such as the Asia Pacific Network, US Department of Energy etc.).

3. Carry out other relevant duties as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

1. Drafting of a detailed summary and \"lessons learned\" report focused on the WCRP Open Science Conference (main requirement).

2. Input provided to various sponsor technical documents.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
University Degree
Experience
Experience with planning and organization of large international conferences, ideally with the WCRP Open Science Conference in Kigali (October 2023).
Other requirements
Good communication skills and knowledge of WCRP activities.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) Additional Information:
SALARY: 400$ net of tax per day.
