Job Description

54 reasons are committed to working in partnership with young people and their caregivers to improve wellbeing outcomes for young people in regional NSW. Join our passionate new team in this newly created role focusing on early intervention and creating spaces where young people can connect, be heard, and build positive relationships through strengths-based engagement and support.

54 reasons is Australiaโ€™s leading child rights organisation โ€“ no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, weโ€™re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the childโ€™s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

This is a part-time, maximum term position through to the 20/12/2024. Work structure will be 4.5 days/34.2 hours per week or a 9-day fortnight, dependent on what suits you best.

You will work with young people aged 12-18 years and their families, delivering a youth led outreach program with the aim of creating and supporting safety, belonging and wellbeing for young people and their families in engaging and creative ways in the Cessnock and Singleton LGAโ€™s. As part of our Mobile Youth Outreach, Regional Youth Investment Program team, youโ€™ll report to our 54 reasons Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

Ensuring quality service delivery and design of youth-led arts and recreational activities to young people aged 12-18 years from a Mobile Youth Van, with a focus on wellbeing, mentoring in practical skills, career and education support in line with funder guidelines. Creating a welcoming safe space that young people feel comfortable in, celebrating diversity, and giving them an opportunity to seek information, support, and advice. Using a strengths-based approach to empower young people to learn new skills and grow in their own personal development. Consulting regularly with local communities, professionals, service providers and referral services to ensure our service is meeting local needs.

Does this sound like you?

You have a focus on early intervention and exceptional communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to effectively design and facilitate engaging group programs. Youโ€™re truly passionate about standing up for young people, and your background is ideally in Youth Work, Social Work, or a similar field. Your thorough understanding of the impacts of trauma, coupled with your communication and relationship building skills, will enable you to build connections with young people to help them lead a brighter future. You have strong cultural knowledge which helps you to engage with families, and youโ€™re creative and passionate about working with young people aged 12-18 years. Finally, youโ€™re an independent self-starter who is happy to work remotely when not delivering programs.

This role requires:

Experience in designing and delivering innovative and creative youth-based programs in a paired facilitation model. Ability to work in partnership and build meaningful, respectful connections with young people and their families, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to assess and establish goals collaboratively with young people and their families. A Diploma/Degree qualification in a Youth Work or a relevant field would be desirable, or significant relevant experience. Class C Driverโ€™s Licence and willingness to travel in the region to deliver programs.
