The Vanuatu Community-based Climate Resilience Project (VCCRP) is the largest community-based adaptation project ever delivered in the Pacific. Implemented in partnership with the Government of Vanuatu, VCCRP aims to transform how communities in Vanuatu effectively respond to the growing impacts of climate change.
Where you come in:
In this fulltime 2-year contract with the possibility of extension, based in Port Vila, Vanuatu, you will use your program management expertise and technical experience to lead all aspects of the day-to-day coordination and planning for the Department of Climate Change (DoCC) and National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) components of the VCCRP project. These include:
· Establishing and strengthening the capacity of CDCCCs;
· Developing and disseminating climate information to target communities;
· Finalising and reviewing Community-Based Adaptation Plans (CBAPs) and contributing to decision making on appropriate interventions;
· Supporting Area Councils and Provincial officials incorporating climate risk analysis into AC plans and budgets;
· Capturing lessons learned and best practices at the community level to ensure sub-national and national planning processes are informed by local needs;
· Support local authorities with monitoring and evaluation of national CCDRR policies at the local level.
Working under the supervision of the VCCRP Project Management Unit, DoCC and NDMO, and in close collaboration with the other project Sector Leads for DLA, Vanuatu Fisheries Department (VFD), Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), and Department of Water Resources (DOWR) you will ensure effective implementation, high-quality and timely outputs, and strong coordination between project components.
You will make an impact by:
· Leading coordinated, well-planned implementation, effectively conducting activities to support improved community climate resilience in 282 communities across Vanuatu.
· Acting as the key focal point for all DoCC and NDMO project-related matters and interface with all implementing partners or stakeholders (e.g. relevant Ministries, Provincial Technical Working Groups, Area Councils, Community Disaster Climate Change Committees, etc).
· Seeking and appropriately utilising technical input from consultants, DoCC, NDMO, and other project partners to inform the implementation of program activities, ensuring these components are technically sound, implementation methods are consistent with national and global strategies and are likely to achieve scale, as well as equitable and sustainable results.
