Why NRC?

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. Our 15,000 staff work in crises across 40 countries, providing life-saving and long-term assistance to millions of people every year.

Since 2011, Libya has been mired in protracted conflict with more than 800,000 people having humanitarian needs, a number that could rapidly rise if the context continues to deteriorate. Displaced people, affected communities and hosting populations still experience significant challenges and humanitarian needs as a result of inter-sectional vulnerabilities within the Libyan challenging context. Although the number of internally displaced populations (IDP’s) has dropped to 132,000 in 2022, the severity of needs, particularly among long term displaced populations, continue to increase and erodes the resilience of the most vulnerable families.  This continues to affect the ability of vulnerable populations to meet basic needs and access entitlements, rights and services. Amongst the most vulnerable groups in Libya are migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, an estimated at 649,000 individuals. Furthermore, phasing out of the HRP and reduction of humanitarian assistance will further hinder the ability of the most vulnerable to receive humanitarian assistance or access basic services.

NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country. Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will never be able to take away all risks. NRC is an equal opportunities employer and aims to have staffing diversity in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality and physical ability.
