Plan started working in Egypt in 1981 and has a presence in ten of the 27 governorates in which the country including Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Beheira, Kalyoubia, Damietta, Qena, Assuit and Sohag. Plan international Egypt implements programmes designed to enable communities to improve the lives of the most marginalised children and their families. Plan Egyptโ€™s Country Strategy focuses on five strategic objectives.

Through a five-interconnected, gender transformative and context-fit country objectives, PIE intends along with the various stakeholders at all levels to continue delivering positive and transformative changes so that โ€œChildren, especially girls, and young people grow up in an enabling environment, realizing their rights and contributing in both development and humanitarian settings as active agents of changeโ€.

Promoting sexual reproductive health rights, services and facilities so that girls and women can realize their rights and grow up capable of making informed decisions and choices.

Creating economic empowerment opportunities and spaces so that girls, children and young people can overcome barriers that hinder their own development and continue growing up as empowered citizens capable of leading their own development.

Combating Violence against children, girls and women so that they can grow up in safe environments and actively participate in making positive and lasting changes in their lives and communities at large.

Strengthening the resilience, enhancing the preparedness and improving the response of the marginalized communities including refugees and migrants to climate change, crises and natural disasters. This will also include tackling the root causes of irregular migration.

Promoting the active engagement and leadership of young people including girls in decision making and inclusive spaces to foster sustainable changes in their lives as equal and empowered citizens.,

Dimensions of Role:

  • The position is responsible in providing guidance, mainstreaming and forwarding programme support for Environment, Climate Change and Resilience works throughout the programming and project cycle.
  • Responsible in overseeing the technical implementation and integration of climate and environment in the Generation Change Programme; provision of technical support to the Aswan project.
  • Manage crisis response programming in the Area of Responsibilities and lead coordination efforts with the Refugee Response partners, Stakeholders and Donors.
  • Plan and manage human, logistic and financial resources in consultation and cooperation with relevant Support teams
  • This position has budget management responsibilities and creating emergency response strategy through supporting from global hub and consultant.
  • Integrating environment and climate change into programs with the Head of strategy to plan and implement fundraising plans and ensure proper compliance to relevant policies, guidelines and agreements of Government, National offices and donors.
  • This position supports the development of quality programs/projects/proposals to promote the active participation of local communities in adopting the relevant climate change programming, climate change advocacy and resilience strategies.

    Typical Responsibilities โ€“ Key End Results of Position:

    Technical Support (35%)

    • Lead the development of project activities within the SIDA Generation Change program together with all relevant partners with a particular focus on children, youth and young adults
    • Lead the design and provide training to all relevant actors within the Sida Generation Change Program with a particular focus on CSOs and children, youth and young adults
    • Actively participate in the Plan Internationalโ€™s global policy and thematic guidance development work in the area of environment, climate change, and resilience.
    • Contribute to strengthen environment and resilience capacities of relevant staff at country offices and partners through comprehensive capacity strengthening initiatives and mentoring programs.
    • Facilitate trainings, webinars, learning events and workshops for Plan International Egyptโ€™s staff and at time local partners on environment, climate change and resilience programming and standards.
    • Collaborate with the program strategy team in designing and implementing advocacy and communication strategies in the area of resilience, particularly in the interlinkages between age, gender and climate change.
    • Advise Plan International Egypt on the relevant practices, procedures and required changes to remain environment friendly in both programming and operations.
    • Team up with the Country leadership team and the relevant departments and position PIE as a key play in environmental and development in particular, but all programming at national level.
    • Actively use and promote the application of various ECR tools, methodology and frameworks

      support the integration of ECR in Generation Change programme (Sida CIVSAM via SNO) programming and to SNO-funded Aswan Project.

      Lead the and Climate, Environment, Resilience and communication initiatives (20%)

      • Coordinate efforts related to climate and environment within programming in the Plan International Egypt team.
      • Lead and coordinate efforts with external stakeholders, and consultants related to programmes to develop strategy
      • Play a leading role in building, maintaining and following-up of Plan International Egyptโ€™s Environmental Policy and Environmental Action Plan.
      • Represent Plan International in external network fora for policy and thematic work in Egypt and other COs as and when required.
      • Actively participate in the Plan International global policy and thematic guidance development work in the area of ECR and well as in relation to the Climate Hub. Support advocacy and communication efforts in the area of ECR particularly connected to the connection between age, gender and climate change.
      • Lead and support the integration of key tools and methodologies into Generation Change programming, Aswan and other development programming going forward, including:
        Pathways to Resilience Framework and Youth Leadership in Climate Policy Workbook, child climate scorecards, and Child centered multi-risk assessment as well as use of Planโ€™s Environmental impact assessment.

        Provide guidance, mainstreaming and program support for climate change, environmental management and resilience readiness throughout the program and/or project cycle (30%)

        • Provide timely and qualitative advisory in all stages of the project cycle including collaboration with key Program Management staff at Plan Egypt, Country Offices, partners and Regional Hubs in quality design, implementation.
        • Ensure key components of the cross-cutting thematic area (environment, climate and resilience) are mainstreamed in all projects.
        • Contribute to a productive and supportive cooperation with the Country Offices, Global Hub, Regional Offices, partners and Plan International Egypt colleagues.
        • Actively interact and take part in the Global Hubโ€™s Climate and Resilience Network and Working Groups
        • Contribute to identify new funding opportunities within the thematic area and to develop competitive funding proposals.
        • Contribute to assure the quality of the Plan International Egypt supported programs and projects within the fields of environment, climate change and resilience through regular monitoring, evaluation of results, documenting and sharing of lessons learnt

          Program Reporting and Documentation (15%)

          • To document the lessons learned and accumulative experience of girlsโ€™ leadership and youth participation activities in climate and environment.
