Terms of ReferenceโThe Office adopts a strategic registration policy whereby only those at risk of deportation and with a potential referral to resettlement are registered. The Office receives hundreds of applications from residents and non-residents who wish to seek asylum and get resettled. The limited number of protection staff, overwhelmed with various tasks, hinders the Officeโs ability to screen applications and contact individuals to confirm receipt and complete their data, on timely manner. Also, there is a need for a volunteer to assist in the screening of various documents as part of the Office work towards full digitalization of files.
โUNHCR Operation receives a lot of interest from young men and women in Kuwait who wish to volunteer for free for a short period of time, less than 3 months. Due to the current operational needs and shortages of staffing, the volunteer will be a great support to the protection team in dealing with less sensitive information and time consuming tasks, in addition to assisting in advancing operational goals, i.e. digital filing, efficient communication with communities, etc. In return, the volunteer will be trained on CoC and protection principles and main thematic areas and gain a hand on experience in working with affected communities (with certain limitation). The volunteer will sign a confidentiality and impartiality document before commencing with the work in protection.
Overall Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
Engagement in and active support to the following Protection tasks:
* Reception of application from individuals at the gate
* Walk in counselling on the procedures of applications
* Screening of applications and uploading of documents
* Communication with asylum seekers and refugees and providing updates about their cases
* Translation of documents, during interviews, from English to Arabic and vice versa.
This is a volunteering / pro-bono type of engagement
