Mission and objectives UNHCR is mandated by the United Nations to lead and coordinate international action for the worldwide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems. UNHCRโs primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. In its efforts to achieve this objective, UNHCR strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, and to return home voluntarily. By assisting refugees to return to their own country or to settle permanently in another country, UNHCR also seeks lasting solutions to their plight. UNHCRโs Office in Italy is a multi-Country office responsible for Italy, San Marino and the Holy See. Italy plays an important role in refugee protection in Europe, remaining one of the major points of arrival for persons seeking protection to Europe, mostly arriving by sea via the Mediterranean. In 2023, 157,651 migrants and refugees originating from 62 countries arrived in Italy by sea and Italy received 71% of all sea arrivals to Southern Europe. Whereas numbers have gone down in 2024, it is anticipated that Italy will continue to receive the largest number of asylum-seekers arriving in Europe by sea as well as an increasing number arriving by land and air. While there are fluctuations in levels of arrivals, the drivers of the movements from Africa and the Middle East moving along the Central Mediterranean and Balkan routes continue to remain or worsen because of the various political tensions in the Sub-Saharan region. In Italy, UNHCR works to enhance Italyโs role as a global partner, expand solutions and achieve and safeguard best practices in protection. A key priority in this remains to contribute to build a system for identifying and responding to persons with specific needs (arrival, reception, RSD and solutions), and child protection, response to GBV and community engagement are cross-cutting priorities of the operation.
ContextThe aim of the project is to create an online coaching programโa series of sessions focused on career developmentโto support UNHCR professionals in enhancing their career growth and for managing transitions. The program shall assist the participants by providing a series of tools, career guidance, resources and practical skills designed to improve access to job opportunities both within the Organization and the UN system, as well as in external sectors, including in profit working environments. Classes: Offer one-on-one coaching sessions and/or small group coaching sessions. Each online volunteer will be expected to provide support to at least 2 participants.
Task Description1. Interview simulations support: Conducting at least one mock interview session per assigned participant and provide personalized feedback. Offering scenario-based interview practice to enhance specific skills and competencies. 2. Skills developments: Identifying key skills required for career growth (e.g., project management; leadership and effective communication), devoting up to 2 sessions per participant. 3. Career exploration: Providing career plan based on own competencies and objectives, devoting up to 2 sessions per participant. 4. Reviewing and providing feedback on up to 2 CVs/resumes and cover letters per participant. 5. Facilitating at least 2 job search strategy group sessions with a focus on the local labor market, if requested.
