Terms of ReferenceUNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the World Bank-UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement under the Division of Resilience and Solutions at UNHCR Copenhagen (or remote).
Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR currently operates in over 130 countries, using its long expertise to protect and care for millions.

Organizational context
The Joint Data Center is a collaboration between two multilateral institutions โ€“ the World Bank and UNHCR โ€“ joining efforts and expertise towards improving the quality and quantity of data for evidence-based policy decisions and responses to global forced displacement crises. The collaboration between the World Bank and the UNHCR builds on their on-going joint initiatives on forced displacement including analytical work and microdata collection.

The mission of the Center is to enhance the ability of stakeholders to make timely and evidence-informed decisions that can improve the lives of affected people. The Joint Data Center leverages partnerships and innovation in its focus on the collection, analysis, dissemination and use of primary microdata that enables policymaking, programming and research. This includes demographic and socioeconomic data, including on income, skills, education, health, and economic activity on refugees, internally displaced persons, stateless people, returnees, asylum seekers and host populations.

The position
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who understands data and statistics and has an interest in refugees and development. The person in this role will be responsible for providing analytical support across the JDC, working on a portfolio of data-related research and analytical projects of different sizes and natures. As part of a small team, they will need to be flexible in order to adapt to the varying needs of the unit.

Duties and responsibilities
The main responsibilities will include:
โ€ข Analyzing data evidence and preparing descriptive analytical summaries to support JDC activities, including proof-of-concept analysis and quality assurance.
โ€ข Editing and proof-reading technical documents covering data and economics
โ€ข Supporting team members in the drafting and editing of blogs, social media content, papers, and presentations to support dissemination and events.
โ€ข Performing other tasks as needed

Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โ€ข Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO ; and
โ€ข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR .
โ€ข Candidates with previous UNHCR Internship experience must not have exceeded the maximum total cumulative full-time internship duration of eight (8) months.

NOTE: An individual who bears the relationship of parent, child or sibling or step-parent, step-child or step-sibling to a current UNHCR staff member or affiliate is not eligible for an internship.

Desirable qualifications and skills
โ€ข Hold a Bachelorโ€™s degree equivalent or higher in a subject such as Economics, Political Sciences, International Studies, Health Studies or similar, with a proven quantitative focus; or in the field of Statistics or Quantitative Methods;
โ€ข Have a demonstrated knowledge of handling, cleaning and preparation of microdata;
โ€ข Have practical experience of working with data handling and analysis packages, such as R, python or Stata;
โ€ข Have a demonstrated interest in forced displacement issues and/or experience working in this area;
โ€ข Display full command of written and oral English, including strong drafting skills;
โ€ข Have excellent research skills;
โ€ข Be able to work well independently as well as in an intercultural team; and
โ€ข Be available to work full time (40 hours per week) throughout the duration of the internship.

Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 08.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Copenhagen, Denmark / remote.
Internships normally last two to six months with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships.

Acquiring and renewing current visas, residence permits including all associated costs, obtaining medical certification and compliance with taxation requirements (if applicable), are the responsibility of the intern.
The selected candidate will need to provide UNHCR with a proof of funding from the sponsoring institution (if applicable), health insurance coverage applicable to the assigned internship location and a certificate of good health from a qualified medical practitioner certifying their fitness for work, as well as travel. In the event the candidate is not able to produce the required certificate, they will not be admitted to the Internship Programme.

Allowance and Travel: The Sponsoring Institution shall provide non-reimbursable financial support in the form of a stipend/scholarship/allowance/etc. for the period of internship with UNHCR. Travel expenses to and from the internship location shall be the responsibility of the respective sponsoring institution. UNHCR is not responsible for any renumeration for the intern during the internship period.
