ContextThis task helps UNHCR provide international protection to people fleeing their home countries. Interpretation services are crucial for effective communication between asylum seekers, refugees, and UNHCR staff, ensuring they get the help they need. Volunteers need to know UNHCR's goals, mandate, and the principles of confidentiality and impartiality. They should understand the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers and be aware of communication guidelines and best practices in interpretation to ensure their work meets UNHCR's standards.
Task DescriptionUNHCR is looking for online volunteers to provide interpretation services related to registration, Refugee status determination, protection and resettlement interviews, the translation is from French to Sango language Interviews will be conducted remotely via Teams starting 8.30 ( Algiers time) To this end the Online Volunteers are asked: - To interpret the interviews with the different units, the service can take from 1-3 hours per day from Sango to French, - Ensure the interpretation is concise, in line with our code of conduct, and fits the audience Every person engaged by UNHCR to provide interpretation services must sign the UNHCR Interpreter Undertaking of Confidentiality and Impartiality, which UNHCR will provide upon confirmation of nomination. Online volunteers will receive induction training on UNHCR’s mandate and interpretation modalities with refugees.
