UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Warehousing Section of the Logistics Service under the Supply Chain Division at UNHCR Country Office Lima, Peru.

Organizational context

The intern will gain insight into how UNHCR carries out procurement and learn about warehouse management as well as logistics operations on a national scale. What makes the position especially interesting this year is that the operation undergoing a historic transition of Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems at the end of august and the intern will be able to accompany this exciting change. The intern will also have full access to the internal learning library of UNHCR where they can take courses on supply and other subjects.
The Intern will be joining a team of four, three located in Lima and one in Tumbes. The Intern will be supervised directly by the Head of Supply Peru and perform a variety of functions related to Supply activities within the operation. The supervisor defines work processes and provides regular advice and guidance. All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. In addition, staff members are required to carry out their responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core, functional, and cross-functional competencies and UNHCRโ€™s core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity. The position

The expectation is that the intern supports the supply team in all areas of their work including procurement, logistics and warehousing. The working hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 05:30 pm and Friday from 8:30 am to 02:00 pm. However, flexible arrangements to attend classes or other commitments might be possible after previous discussion. If the candidate has a special interest in a particular field or activity best efforts will be made to facilitate learning in this field. In the team we handle the procurement process from start to finish and the intern will gain insight into all aspects of it.
The ideal candidate connects to UNHCRยดs mission and values and has either previous experience in supply chain management and/or public procurement or a keen interest and ability to learn. The candidate is comfortable working in a diverse environment with colleagues from many different countries and cultural contexts. Important personality traits to succeed in this role are: diligence, being detail oriented, honesty, integrity, ability to prioritize and ability to follow through on tasks.
Due to the nature of our work emergencies can arise quickly and unforeseen. The intern must be able to keep calm in an environment with conflicting priorities that can evolve quickly. The day-to-day work is mostly carried out in Spanish, but English is required for regional coordination meetings and because key trainings and documents are in English.

Duties and responsibilities

โ€ข Support colleagues in drafting of tender documents and in financial evaluation of offers
โ€ข Support colleagues in drafting case presentations for internal approval
โ€ข Support colleagues during the mid-year and end of year physical count of inventory (in case of interfering disability: support with documentation of physical count results)
โ€ข Support colleagues in the day-to-day management of logistics and warehouses
โ€ข Support the operation during the transition of ERPs and during the end of year budget implementation
โ€ข Support colleagues in contract drafting and issuance of purchase orders

Minimum qualification required

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โ€ข Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
โ€ข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
โ€ข Be fluent in Spanish and min. intermediate in English (able to understand manuals, trainings, presentations that include technical vocabulary and to write emails and have simple conversations)
โ€ข Work experience covering aspects of supply chain management (procurement, logistics, warehousing, legalโ€ฆ), especially public procurement
โ€ข Studies in administration, economics, social sciences, logistics, international business, law, engineering or a related field
โ€ข Experience within refugee advocacy or a related cause

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship

Conditions

It is a full-time role with working hours starting from Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 05:30 pm and Friday from 8:30 am to 02:00 pm. The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in the Country Office Peru located in Miraflores, Lima.

Acceptance of the internship is subject to the presentation of a โ€œgood health certificateโ€ issued by a physician, which includes that the candidate is fully vaccinated. That document should certify that the candidate is physically and mentally fit to work and that the candidate is fully vaccinated
At the end of the internship period, the intern must submit a report approved by their supervisor and will receive an internship certificate

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
