Role and responsibilitiesย 

NRCโ€™s Better Learning Programme (BLP) is a psychosocial support (PSS) programme which can be integrated within education programming. It is NRC's flagship classroom-based PSS intervention for children in crisis-affected communities. The programme is a holistic approach to supporting childrenโ€™s recovery and improving their conditions for learning. The BLP consists of three components of programme intervention. The first โ€“ the BLP-1 โ€“ is a general, classroom-based PSS approach targeting all children and young people. The second โ€“ the BLP-2 โ€“ is a small group intervention to support resilience amongst a more specific target group of academic under-achievers. The third โ€“ the BLP-3 โ€“ is a specialized PSS approach to address nightmares, which many children experience as a chronic symptom of traumatic stress.ย ย 

The Better Learning Programme Technical Officer will work under the education core competence and will be in charge of mapping out capacity building needs, adapt and implement capacity building packages both online and during field visits.ย ย 

Generic responsibilitiesย 

Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and proceduresย  Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assistย  Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategyย  Contribute to programme development, adjustment or reviewย  Conduct Education CC specific technical assessment and present recommendationsย  Provide Education CC specific technical input to coordination mechanism (sub-cluster coordination) and PSSMH (Psychosocial Support and Mental Health) working groups as per the request of the Education Project Managerย 

Specific responsibilitiesย ย 

Support the start-up and roll-out of the NRC Better Learning Programme (BLP) education activities under the technical management of the education technical coordinator (BLP)ย  Support the planning, organization and implementation of the BLP activities, including the BLP/Psychosocial Support (PSS) Teacher trainings. Co-facilitate some BLP training sessions as requested by the education technical coordinator (BLP).ย ย  Support the BLP data collection education needs assessments in the Area (elaboration, planning, coordination with relevant actors, implementation, translation as appropriate, reporting);ย  Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data in close cooperation with IM Education Technical Officer. Present the data in a comprehensive manner as requested by the technical coordinator (BLP).ย  Translate programme documents and meetings from English to the Ukrainian languages as appropriate;ย  Contribute to the development of the education programme with technical and contextual inputs;ย

Generic professional competencies for this position:ย ย 

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience within field of expertise (Education, social services including psychosocial support/psychology or other relevant fields)ย  Documented technical competences related to the positionโ€™s responsibilities.ย  Technical specific knowledge of the humanitarian sector is an asset.ย 

Context related skills, knowledge and experience:ย ย 

Experience in Psychosocial Support programming in educationย  Experience in conducting training for adults (Teacher training/ Training of trainers is an asset)ย  Knowledge of the education system in Ukraineย  Working knowledge of English both written and verbalย ย  Fluent in Ukrainian. Knowledge of Russian language is an asset.ย
