Position Title: Associate Discovery Officer
Reports To: Associate Director of Leadership Giving
Location: Boston, MA or Remote U.S., domestic travel 10-20%

Position Overview
The Associate Discovery Officer will design and implement fundraising strategies and meet annual and long-range goals focused on the high end of our midlevel portfolio โ donors in our database who have the capacity to give at least $10,000 or more. Part of an Individual Giving team of more than 50 people that raises more than $100 million per year, the Associate Discovery Officer will work to confirm prospect leads for the Partners In Health (PIH) Major and Principal Giving team through systematic, rapid cultivation and qualification of discovery donors in the midlevel portfolio. The Discovery Officer will design and execute a strategy to reach and interact with donors in this funnel, seeking to engage and occasionally solicit with individuals who have major gift capacity and a willingness to give. The Discovery Officer will also maintain a small portfolio of donors with whom a relationship is established but are not a prospect for major gifts.
Specific Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of Leadership Giving, create and implement a strategy to reach and meet with โcoldโ prospects who have potential to be major gift donors.
- Build a strong funnel of prospects for the major gifts team by reaching out to qualify, solicit, and upgrade donors in our midlevel community.
- Collaborate closely with Prospect, Management and Research team to identify the best discovery prospects and then qualify or disqualify as necessary.
- Manage communications, steward and solicit a small portfolio of midlevel donors, upgrading as appropriate.
- Work with the Gift Planning team to increase the number of legacy society members.
- Work closely with the Associate Engagement Officer to provide appropriate cultivation, stewardship and communication to the applicable segments of mid-level standard donors with the goal of increasing retention.
- Support the Leadership Giving and Annual Giving team in achieving their goals through donor outreach projects, such as calendar year end solicitation and stewardship outreach among others. Stay informed on PIH programs and projects to be able to discuss and share updates with donors.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree (or experiential equivalent of 5 years of employment) with 2-3 yearsโ experience working in a professional nonprofit fundraising environment or other related industry.
- Proven capabilities working with donors or clients, including experience soliciting gifts and executing donor stewardship and cultivation strategies.
- Excellent writing, communications and interpersonal skills.
- Solid computer skills in a PC environment. Excellent skills in the functional use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; working knowledge of Salesforce and/or experience with data management or customer relationship management software a plus.
- Experience in customer service a plus.
- Demonstrated maturity and good judgment to represent PIH appropriately and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of competing tasks in a time-sensitive environment and to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 20%)
- Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and sites.
