Partners In Health (PIH) is an international health organization relentlessly committed to improving the health of the poor and marginalized. PIH partners with local governments to build local capacity and works closely with impoverished communities to deliver high-quality health care, address the root causes of illness, train providers, advance research, and advocate for global policy change. Our delivered services in the field are based in our partnership with the Governments and Ministries of Health and the support to education, training and mentorship to Health care workers and students is one of our pillars for the Health care system strengthening.

PIH currently has implementation programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Sierra Leone and Navajo Nation. Through our partnership with Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Womenโ€™s Hospital, we support a wide range of programs in dozens of other countries around the world.

Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview

The Facility Assistant under the direct supervision of the Operations & Facility Management Advisor Falaba District and with support from the Administrative Officer in Kailahun District, supports the daily operations, maintenance, and safety of a facility. He/She assist with repairs, upkeep, and administrative tasks to ensure a clean, functional, and organized environment. The facility Assistant support the Operations & Facility Management Advisor in Falaba District and the entire Falaba District office in ensuring smooth operation of administrative functions for effective implementation of program activities. The roles involves ensuring all program activities in Falaba runs effectively by creating a clean, safe and secured environment in all PIH premises i.e. Office, guesthouse etc. He/she also help in the execution of other administrative function as detailed in the essential duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning of Office Building, Guest House buildings, removing debris, and the entire compound clean and tidy.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of workspaces, common areas, and storage
  • Clean of carpets, empties trash can/waste bin, and replace lining of trash cans in both offices and quest houses.
  • Ensure proper cleanliness of the areas around the office such as walkways and parking lots.
  • Clean, dust and mop office floors by using a variety of equipment and cleaning products.
  • Wipe down desks and chairs and ensure all stubborn smears are removed using appropriate cleaning materials.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.
  • Replenish towels, soap and toiletries in bathrooms on a regular basis.
  • Identify and report possible repairs, replace faulty light bulbs.
  • Move around heavy equipment and furniture for the purpose of storage or rear
  • Perform other duties relating to job as may be directed by Supervisor or Management.

    Qualifications & Other Requirements

    • Two (2) passes in WASSCE (or at least must have attained BECE level).
    • Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience.
    • Basic computer skills including MS office packages and internet skills would be an added advantage.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Reliability and Teamwork.
    • Ability to organize own work and provide support to staff at all levels e.g. admin support during program events.
    • Good interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments.
    • Sense of humor and flexible disposition/very helpful.
    • Interest in social justice and global health.
