PROJECT SUMMARY:

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded a corporative agreement to Opportunity International (Opportunity) as the lead Implementing Partner (IP) for the USAID/Ghana Low-Cost Private Schools (LCPS) Activity with five partners including FHI 360. The goal of the Activity is to enable schools, communities, financial organizations, professional networks, and the Government of Ghana (GoG) to improve student learning outcomes and financing options for LCPS over five years (2023 โ€“ 2028). The Activity targets 213 select LCPS in 17 USAID Zone of Influence districts of northern Ghana. The three intermediate results (IR) of the Activity are to improve the quality of education offered by LCPS; to increase investment in and business performance of LCPS; and, to strengthen the capacity of Ministry of Education (MoE) and professional networks to support LCPS.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Teacher Professional Development Specialist, Literacy Education will work closely with Opportunity Internationalโ€™s education staff. S/he will develop training materials, that focus on the teaching of literacy in lower primary grades. Training formats may include face-to-face, distance education and blended learning formats. The Teacher Professional Development Specialist will facilitate trainings and develop staff capacity in the use of the literacy teaching and learning program, in particular, the Ministry of Education, Ghana/Ghana Education Service program (originally developed with support from the USAID-funded โ€œLearningโ€, Transition to English (T2E) Plus reading and writing program). Trainings will mainly target teachers, teacher mentors, and school leaders. The Teacher Professional Development Specialist will support ongoing implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of the program, as well as other tasks as assigned.
