Organizational context
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' (UNHCR) primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. In its efforts to achieve this objective, the Office strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge.
Within UNHCR, the Office of the Ombudsman and Mediator is an independent, informal, neutral and confidential entity tasked to work with individuals and the organization to prevent, reduce and informally resolve workplace issues and concerns. This is done by facilitating the resolution of workplace-related disputes, supporting skill-building activities and providing upward feedback on the root causes of workplace conflicts.
The position
The Research and Data Analyst Intern will have the opportunity to support and assist with finding innovative ways to conduct research studies, statistical analyses, and surveying to help the Office in carrying out itโs mandate to help prevent, reduce and resolve workplace conflicts and concerns.
The Office is seeking a part-time intern who will be responsible for the following duties in general for specific projects:
โข Assists in designing and implementing research projects on the area of conflict resolution including designing research protocols, organizing, planning, and managing the collection of qualitative and quantitative data, processing and analyzing the data collected, supporting the dissemination, and communicating main findings, monitoring and evaluating the projects.
โข Assists in training and technical support on data collection and processing for other project implementers.
โข Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โข Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant.
โข The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for. This includes studies in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, GIS, Statistics, Mathematics, Management and Strategy, Analytics, Operations Research, Data Visualization or Information Design, Economics, Business Administration, socio-anthropology or closely related fields.
Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Desirable qualifications and skills
โข Strong knowledge of research protocols
โข Mastery of qualitative and quantitative data collection, processing and analysis
โข Ability to merge disparate information sources using business intelligence and generate analytical reports
โข Strong knowledge of one or more analytics and presentation tools (e.g., Power BI, SPSS/ PSPP, Excel, Tableau, PowerPoint, SQL, R, Python)
โข Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate and present findings
Conditions
It is a part-time role (20 hours a week) with working hours between 9.00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, upon agreement. The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team and will report to the Conflict Resolution Officer based in Budapest, Hungary.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
