UNHCR Representation in Japan is seeking interns for its Protection Unit who will assist the work of the Office.

ใ€Durationใ€‘
In principle, total 86 working days or more, including paid leaves (preferably up to 6 months; 5 days per week for 4 months / 4 days per week for 5 months) Working hours: Weekdays 9:30-17:30; Office is closed during weekends. Japanese national holidays do not necessarily correspond to UN holidays that UNHCR observes, thus you will be requested to work on certain Japanese holidays. During the agreed period, the program in principle does not accommodate long-term temporary suspension of the internship for reasons including study abroad.

* UNHCR representation in Japan is partially working in the telework modality, however, interns are in principle expected to be prepared to be physically present in the office at any given time during the internship. Therefore, requests for telework for partial or the entire period of the internship duration will not be accommodated. Please note that we will be asking for candidateโ€™s COVID-19 vaccination status.

Eligible candidates will fulfil the following criteria:
โ€ข Candidates must have completed recently (within 2 years) or are enrolled in graduate/higher degree programmes (recent university graduate (within 1 year) or current undergraduate students who have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies may be considered depending on qualifications);
โ€ข A keen interest in refugee issues (and an educational background in relevant areas an asset);
โ€ข Fluency in Japanese and good English language skills, both written and spoken;
โ€ข Adhere to the UNHCR code of conduct including confidentiality rules regarding all activities and tasks undertaken;
โ€ข This is a local employment/internship opportunity and candidates must have the necessary legal status in the country to take up this position. As such, we are asking all candidates the status of residence in Japan (for candidates who are not Japanese nationals); and
โ€ข Good knowledge of MS Office programs and Internet applications (knowledge in excel with the ability to use macro calculations or other applications a further advantage).
