Job description

The Joint Action ‘Capacity for Development (C4N)’ is an action area of the ‘Knowledge for Nutrition’ programme. K4N aims to support the European Commission (EC), its partners, and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) with competence and knowledge to inform nutrition-related programs and policies with evidence-based approaches and strategies. C4N is financed jointly by the EC and Germany (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ. C4N aims to strengthen capacities to enhance the knowledge base of the EC, EU Delegations, EU Member States and partner countries to advance the fight against all forms of malnutrition. As of 2023, C4N is also supporting the operationalisation of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement 3.0 strategy. As Project manager you coordinate and manage the C4N-Advisory action area (implementation manager, GIZ Level 5), including budget, staff, and long-term experts.

Your tasks

You strategically manage the provision of technical advice to EU Delegations, national governments, and the European Commission International partnerships F3 unit on nutrition-related topics You ensure quality assurance of advisory support from staff and consultants, aligned with approved work plans and budgets You coordinate the implementation of the technical assistance support to SUN movement countries in a results-oriented manner, collaborating with other Team Europe Approach partners You monitor the C4N-Advisory action area's financial and technical implementation as well as results achievement, adhering to rules and regulation of GIZ and commissioning institutions You identify and mobilise short-term and long-term experts for assignments, oversee their travel and monitoring of contracts You network and coordinate with relevant actors, including GIZ representation in Brussels, other operational units, GIZ programmes in Germany and partner countries You ensure visibility and communication of BMZ and EU nutrition commitments through goal-oriented networking with international partners (e.g., SUN Movement, United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards Secretariat, Global Aid Network) You will manage the staff in your project in accordance with GIZ’s understanding of leadership and will cultivate appreciative leadership

Your profile

University degree in nutrition, public health, food security, public policy, or a relevant discipline with several years of experience in nutrition within external assistance/development cooperation Many years of professional experience in food and nutrition security, rural development, and/or nutrition-related health Several years of professional experience in advising, organizing, and coordinating international nutrition policy processes Several years of experience in formulating, implementing, and/or evaluating nutrition programmes and projects, including both multi-sectoral nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific initiatives Several years of involvement with EU development policy, coupled with a solid understanding of EC development cooperation programmes and procedures Very good knowledge of international networks and contacts within the development and humanitarian realms of food and nutrition security (social protection is a plus) Outstanding communication, writing, and oral presentation skills Good diplomatic and intercultural skills and a sound awareness of gender issues Strategically and analytically thinking and acting and ability to grasp new concepts rapidly and prioritise key topics Business fluent in English and French, an effective operational proficiency language skill in German is an advantage

Notes

This position is allocated to salary band 5 and is suited to a full or a part-time position.

The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
