UNHCR Photo Unit
Images serve as a powerful tool to raise awareness about UNHCR and the millions of vulnerable people that the agency helps. The Photo Unit supports various teams in the production and management of images at headquarters in Geneva and in countries around the world. The overall aim is to advocate for greater awareness and empathy for forcibly displaced and stateless people. Interns are thoroughly embedded in the team and tasked to deliver concrete elements of various key projects.
Key responsibilities will include:
โข Assist in upload, checking and processing of consent forms on Orange-Logic archive system
โข Review consent status for archival material
โข Collaborate with communications colleagues, photographers, and other members of the Global Communications Service on archiving of photographic consent
โข Create metadata in accordance with UNHCR branded guidelines
โข Support the team on ad hoc activities in relation to the Photo Unit
The position
UNHCR is looking for individuals with a wide range of skills and great interest in the work of the organization to support our work, specifically in support of its key events.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience are required.
Eligibility
To be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โข Be a recent graduate (Recent graduates are considered to be candidates who completed their studies within two years of applying for an internship with UNHCR) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization
โข Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
Other qualifications
Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in communications, advocacy or external relations. Knowledge of digital asset management software or an interest in learning this is an advantage.

โข Excellent communication skills in English, including strong writing skills.
โข Required: Fluency in English is essential with knowledge of a second language preferred. Working knowledge of any other language is an asset.
โข Strong attention to detail.
โข Interest in the humanitarian sector.
โข Excellent interpersonal skills.
โข Ability to organize yourself and work independently.
โข Strong command of common computer software and online tools.
Location
The successful candidate will be based with the team in the Geneva, Switzerland.
Conditions
The internship is for a duration of three months and will begin in 15 September 2023. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00 am to 6:00 pm Mondays to Fridays (40 hours per week).

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
