Mission and objectivesUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of gender equality. As part of the Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD), the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Section leads UN Womenโ€™s engagement with private sector entities, corporations, philanthropic foundations, and individuals. PSP is responsible for initiatives such as the Womenโ€™s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), Unstereotype Alliance (UA), and HeForShe. PSPโ€™s main goal is to ensure that UN Women develops and sustains high-impact, focused partnerships that contribute to maximum results for gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment.

ContextIn partnership with the UN Global Compact, UN Women launched the Womenโ€™s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to offer guidance to the private sector on how to promote gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace, and community. Over 10,000 companies worldwide have adopted the WEPs, demonstrating their commitment to gender-responsive business practices. The WEPs Secretariat, housed within the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Section, manages the operational and administrative aspects of the WEPs initiative, including client engagement, onboarding, and corporate outreach. It also supports UN Womenโ€™s regional and country offices on WEPs-related activities and monitors the progress of WEPs implementation by corporate signatories. The volunteer will assist the WEPs team in promoting these principles and supporting companies in their commitment to gender equality by focusing on strategic communications and outreach.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for 3 experienced and creative Online Volunteers who will support our communications team with the development of an outreach/social media campaign. In close collaboration with the team, the Online Volunteers will: Volunteer 1 will conduct the following task: - Develop a 6-month social media plan with a content calendar that highlights key themes, international days related to gender equality, and engagement opportunities. This includes drafting, writing, and messaging for WEPs social media channels, ensuring content remains relevant to the WEPs community while showcasing key international observances and resources. Volunteer 2 will conduct the following task: - Create Social Media Cards. Design and produce a minimum of two social media cards each week for LinkedIn to promote WEPs initiatives, highlighting specific resources, events, and international observances. Volunteer 3 will conduct the following task: - Draft Monthly Newsletter. Prepare a monthly newsletter that showcases WEPs resources, events, and key messages. As well as assist in the drafting of outreach materials for webinars and promote the webinars on social media through LinkedIn posts, blog posts on our webpage and drafting mass emails. Additionally, the volunteers will participate in weekly coordination meetings and meet with the supervisor for 1 hour a week to update on their work, discuss progress, challenges and align communication efforts. The Online Volunteer will be provided with material and other sources to develop the outreach/social media campaign as required and available. For close coordination and discussion, the Online Volunteer is expected to be available for online calls. This assignment provides Online Volunteers with an opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills in communication, while gaining an increased understanding of UN Womenโ€™s work and the broader UN system. Volunteers will also learn about engaging the private sector on gender equality issues in an international context and gain experience working as part of a multicultural team.
