The Political Analysis andย Programmeย Development Unit (PAPDU) provides gender-responsive political and contextual country and regional analysis to inform strategic decision-making and advance UN Womenโs triple mandate. The Unit delivers high-quality analytical andย strategicย support to the Executive Leadership engagements andย representsย UN Women in UN interagency and system-wide coordination forums onย programming approaches. It alsoย facilitatesย strategic liaison withย programmeย country Member States based in New York and strengthens programmatic partnerships and political alignment. PAPDU serves as an institutionalย bridge andย facilitates the flow of strategic information and analysis to and from global,ย regionalย and country office teams.ย ย
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief, PAPDU, the intern will provide support in the areas collecting and analyzing data, supporting conference activities, and contributing to communication materials.
Description of Responsibilities
Supportย the delivery of timely, gender-informed analysis of political trends and synthesize inputs from Regional and Country Offices into data driven projections used for strategic planning and policy positioning; Support the development ofย analytical briefs, backgroundย documents,ย and country snapshotsย for specific regions and countries by conducting targeted qualitative research to inform senior management briefings, intergovernmental processes, and outreach;ย Supportย cross-regionalย learning events andย knowledge management tools by drafting and coordinating the preparation of reports;ย ย Assist in data collection and desk research to inform analytical and briefing products, including on UN reform and South-South Cooperation, by compiling background materials summarizing key findings and supporting the preparation of draft analytical briefs, background notes, and country snapshots under the guidance of the Regional Specialists;ย Support meetings and engagement with partners, by preparing background documents, conducting desk research, compiling and synthesizing background information, and editing briefing notes and talking points to ensure materials are accurate and follow established templates;ย Support the organization ofย side-events at intergovernmental meetings like the Commission on the Status of Women by drafting and reviewing background documents and checklists for side-events, refining concept notes, speaker bios, and briefing notes; Supportย the preparation ofย presentations using such tools as PowerPoint;ย Support the updating and maintenance of the teamโsย SharePointย knowledge hub.ย ยLearning Objectives:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
