Mission and objectivesUN Women exists to advance womenโs rights, gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. As the lead UN entity on gender equality and secretariat of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, we shift laws, institutions, social behaviours and services to close the gender gap and build an equal world for all women and girls. Our partnerships with governments, womenโs movements and the private sector coupled with our coordination of the broader United Nations translate progress into lasting changes. We make strides forward for women and girls in four areas: leadership, economic empowerment, freedom from violence, and women, peace and security as well as humanitarian action. UN Women keeps the rights of women and girls at the centre of global progress โ always, everywhere. Because gender equality is not just what we do. It is who we are. Women Count is UN Womenโs global gender data programme. Also known as โMaking Every Woman and Girl Countโ, it was created to support member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda, and aims to affect a radical shift in the availability, accessibility and use of data and statistics on key aspects of gender equality and womenโs empowerment. Women Count is a multi-year and multi-country programme of work, supported by global and regional activities linking normative and technical work on gender statistics at the global level to the regional and national levels. Women Count has three broad aims: 1. Create an enabling environment: Promoting a supportive policy environment to strengthen gender statistics production and use. 2. Improve data production: Through building capacity of national statistical systems and supporting improved data collection so that we can better monitor the SDGs. 3. Increase data use: By providing tools, training and making data accessible, so that data users are better able to use gender statistics in policy, programmes and advocacy.
ContextWomen Count has been moving the needle on data production and use to drive structural changes in economic policies and programmes to empower women and support their employment and entrepreneurship. The programmeโs work to make womenโs economic contributions more visible through time-use surveys, household satellite accounts of production, labour force surveys and myriad other studies and analyses are helping governments recognize the economic value of unpaid care work and address other gendered gaps in labour and economic policy. As part of this effort, Women Count has been developing a number of knowledge products to build knowledge, capacity and harmonization around time use, citizen data and household surveys. For this reason, editorial and formatting capacity is needed to finalize the production of 5 technical knowledge products, ranging from guidance documents to analytical reports.
Task DescriptionThe online volunteer will be responsible for editing/proofreading and layout or formatting for five technical knowledge products. 1. Harmonized measures and practical guidance towards increased comparability for time-use survey statistics (30,000 words) โข Ensure the document adheres to UN Women editorial guidelines and UN style guide. โข Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. โข Design a cover page in line with Women Count branding guidelines. โข Format Word document into a publication layout following Women Count branding. 2. Integrating Citizen Data on Gender into National SDG Monitoring Frameworks (17,000 words) โข Basic editing and checks to ensure language consistency and adherence to UN Women editorial guidelines and UN style guide. โข Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. โข Design a cover page in line with Women Count branding guidelines. โข Format Word document into a publication layout following Women Count branding. 3. Companion report: Integrating Citizen Data on Gender into National SDG Monitoring Frameworks: Case Studies (6,000 words) โข Basic editing and checks to ensure language consistency and adherence to UN Women editorial guidelines and UN style guide. โข Perform final checks to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting errors. โข Design a cover page in line with Women Count branding guidelines. โข Format Word document into a publication layout following Women Count branding. 4.
