Position Title: Managing Director, Impact and Planning

Reports to: Principal, Chief Finance and Systems Officer

Location: Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely within the U.S. or hybrid of these two options. (up to 10% international and domestic travel)

Position Type: Full Time

Position Summary:

The Managing Director, Impact and Planning is responsible for overseeing organizational efforts to operationalize the PIH Strategic Plan, including managing a team to support effective prioritization, organizational work planning, and project management. The Managing Director, Impact and Planning will also lead efforts to advance PIH’s organizational impact strategy and ensure staff are equipped with the resources and tools needed to communicate impact effectively. As a critical member of the leadership team, this position will be a central figure in facilitating decision-making by organizational leadership on strategic priorities and new initiatives, ensuring key stakeholders are well-informed and engaged.

Responsibilities:

Planning and strategy development (50%)

  • Oversee the operationalization of the PIH Strategic Plan in collaboration with leadership and organizational stakeholders, including the development and maintenance of tools and systems to support planning and track progress.
  • Create and lead a process that facilitates data-driven decision-making by organizational leadership and the sequencing of priorities aligned with the PIH Strategic Plan.
  • Design, launch, and lead a function that stewards programmatic strategy development for established organizational priorities and new initiatives.
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration and alignment with other organizational efforts including multi-year financial planning and multi-year fundraising initiatives.
  • Oversee the translation of programmatic strategy into resources, messaging, and tools used to support fundraising across all revenue streams.

    Impact (30%)

    • Advance PIH’s strategy to systematically synthesize, document, and communicate the impact of PIH’s work around the world.
    • Oversee the continued design, implementation, and management of a structured plan to establish an organizational vision for impact, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and organizational readiness for implementation of new systems and processes.
    • Oversee activities to collect, analyze, visualize, and leverage organizational impact indicators (i.e. core metrics) aligned with the PIH Strategic Plan.
    • Lead organizational change management efforts to accompany leadership and key stakeholders to use data to inform strategy and planning.

      Organizational project management (20%)

      • Design and oversee the implementation of a project management workstream that ensures organizational priorities and new initiatives are properly resourced, managed, and monitored.
      • Oversee the creation of processes and systems that promote cross-functional collaboration and accountability across the PIH U.S. coordination site to ensure effective support of care delivery and university sites on implementation of strategic priorities and new initiatives.
      • Oversee the Impact & Planning team budget and ensure leaders at care delivery sites have the support needed to monitor and manage relevant project budgets tied to impact-related funding streams.

        Qualifications

        • 14+ years of relevant work experience including in organizational impact, strategy development, data-driven decision making, and system design, including at least 5 years of team leadership.
        • Advanced degree in public health, business, or a related field preferred.
        • Experience working with diverse teams and stakeholders, cross-functionally and cross-geographically.
        • Experience in overseeing complex organizational projects, including design, implementation, project management and evaluation.
        • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through written and verbal channels to internal and external stakeholders.
        • Ability to solve problems creatively to meet organizational goals and objectives.
        • Flexibility, adaptability.
        • Passion for PIH’s mission and ability to effectively serve as an ambassador for the organization.
