Position Title: Senior Policy OfficerPosition Classification: Regular; Exempt; Full-Time; 40 Hours/Week; 12-month position. Reports to: Associate Director of AdvocacyLocation: Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely in the Washington D.C. area or within the U.S., or hybrid of these two options. (Up to 10 % domestic or international travel.)Please note that we do not sponsor U.S. work authorization for this role. Candidates must be able to legally work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship. Position Overview:The Policy Officer (“the Officer”) performs a range of work required to influence key actors in institutions of power, namely within the U.S. Legislative and Executive Branches, to advance the quality and quantity of global health funding and improve care delivery. The Officer will have interdisciplinary experience and skills in applied policy analysis, research, policy advocacy, public health, and community organizing. They will understand the importance of strong evidence as the foundation of sound policies and will undertake significant research to inform the development of policy advocacy strategies. The Officer will work closely with Partners In Health’s (PIH) coordination site Theory of Change branch, PIH leadership, and cross-site Policy and Partnership teams.Specific Responsibilities:Research & Strategy Development (60%)

• Conduct research and analysis to guide the strategic direction of PIH’s policy and advocacy work with U.S. Congress.
• Lead the research, writing, editing, and publishing of policy papers, policy briefs, advocacy materials, reports and articles, and internal messaging through collaboration across the organization. Direct Advocacy Work (20%)
  • Accompany PIH donors and Board of Trustees members in advocacy initiatives advancing global health equity and social justice.
  • Prepare PIH senior leadership and partners for, and accompany them to, meetings with policymakers in Congress, the White House, and federal agencies, handle correspondence and relationship management with these policymakers.
  • Represent PIH in meetings with policymakers in Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and state and local governments.
  • Increase access to quality information on global health issues across the organization.Communications (20%)
    • Work closely with the communications team to engage PIH’s supporters in a range of grassroots advocacy actions and increase U.S. media attention to issues of global health equity. Requirements:
      • Master’s degree in public health, political science, or a related field.
      • 5+ years of policy advocacy experience or specialized training.
      • Track record of providing advice to and influencing senior policy makers.
      • Experience with or strong understanding of the role of official development assistance and the donors in global health, and their inherent power dynamics.
      • Experience with or strong understanding of the role of the pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical markets in medical research, medical technologies access, and health policy making and implementation.
      • Experience with or strong understanding of the material, social, and political dynamics of recent responses to epidemics and pandemics in the U.S. and globally
      • Outstanding attention to detail and proven ability to independently advance research projects.
      • Experience working in complex multi-stakeholder environments, and ability to quickly gain and understand their political dynamics.
      • Strong communications and writing skills including the ability to communicate complex messages to broad audiences.
      • Experience working with the press, from providing technical and scholarly resources to reporters in the background, to serving as an expert commentator on policy issues.
      • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and country.
      • Interest in social justice strongly desirable. Pay and Benefits The expected starting salary range for new hires in this position is between $75,000-$80,000/year and may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market for the position, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position belongs to a class of roles that have a salary range between $75,000 and $85,000/year. Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan with employer match, as well as participate in organization-sponsored medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee’s eligible dependents. Full time employees will receive 15 days of vacation, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 3 volunteer days in addition to paid time off during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the week of July 4th, and 11 additional holidays annually.
