In 2023, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH launched the CATAL1.5°T Initiative (catalist-initiative.eco) to promote the uptake and scaling of innovative climate technologies (‘climate tech’) in young companies and startups in the Global South, with an initial focus on West Africa and Latin America. The initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the international Green Climate Fund (GCF) for a total of EUR 37 million. Its objective is to trigger venture capital investments in start-ups and young businesses with decarbonization products and solutions which have the potential of rapid business growth and a real transformational climate impact in the energy, food & agriculture, manufacturing, buildings and other sectors. The initiative will encompass activities such as acceleration and pre-acceleration programmes aimed at early-stage ventures, ideation workshops (known as 'climathons') for founders interested in climate tech, and training sessions on climate, ESG, and diversity for start-up incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.
Your tasks
We are pleased to announce an exciting internship opportunity with the CATAL1.5°T (pronounced “catalyst”) Initiative. As a communications intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of professionals in a fast-paced and challenging environment. You will contribute to the success of the initiative through a variety of tasks related to the communication of objectives, activities, and achievements of the initiative to a wide range of stakeholders, including start-ups, investors, and policymakers.
Assist to implement a comprehensive communication strategy for the initiative, including social media (especially LinkedIn), and website content Create and manage content for various communication channels, such as social media posts, case studies, newsletters etc. Work with the team to identify and craft compelling stories and content that showcase the impact and success of the CATAL1.5°T Initiative Support relationship management with key stakeholders, including implementation partners, start-ups, incubators and accelerators, investors, policymakers, and media outlets Help to organise and manage events to promote the initiative Assist in implementing a stakeholder engagement plan to ensure that key external stakeholders are regularly informed and engaged with the initiative Provide administrative support, such as scheduling meetings, preparing events, drafting communications, and maintaining records and databasesYour profile
Current enrollment (at least second year) in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field Cumulative 6 months of work experience (e. g. through previous internships) in a communications or marketing agency Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to different audiences and channels Experience in managing social media channels, website content, and other digital communication tools Ability to work independently and as part of a team Fluency in English is required, proficiency in German, Spanish and French is a plus Knowledge or interest in climate technologies and entrepreneurship is an assetNotes
