Job description

The Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative was founded in 2011 against the backdrop of advancing land degradation by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the European Commission. The Secretariat of the initiative is hosted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). ELD recently entered its second decade of activities, in which the initiative continues its transition from raising awareness for the costs and benefits of land degradation and sustainable land management towards informing decisions and bringing about necessary transformative change. The initiativeโ€™s mission is to make the values of land count to inform, promote, and scale land solutions for transformative change. As defined in ELDโ€™s new strategy (ELD 2023, in draft), these are three categories of land solutions: sustainable land management practices, policy instruments and institutional design as well as financing solutions and strategies. ELD works as a global initiative that builds bridges between science, policy, and practice.
