Asylum systems face unprecedented demand and, as a result, have the challenge of providing answers that guarantee quality and efficiency in the refugee status determination process. Considering the scenario of exponential increase of people forced to displace in recent years and its reflection in Brazil, it is essential to adopt new modalities of differentiated case processing to simplify and accelerate the analysis of applications for the recognition of refugee status. In addition, it is essential that refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons and other persons in need of international protection enjoy full protection of the State and have access to rights and services, including health, education, work.
It is understood that this position fits into the context of technical support to the Brazilian National Committee for Refugees (Conare) in further expanding or implementing new refugee public policies at the federal, state and municipal levels to ensure refugeesโ€™ effective access to rights and services, while promoting their self-reliance and socio-economic inclusion and integration through their insertion into national programs.
It is a position in Brasilia, in the MJSP to work with the General Coordination of CONARE.

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

The Integration Assistant supports Conare with all activities related to integration, durable solutions and refugee public policies initiatives and strategies.

The position is supervised by a more senior position and receives functional guidance and support from Protection at country level. Subject to the nature of the task/assignment, he/she will work independently on routine tasks, while will follow instructions of the supervisor for more complex issues. The position has no supervisory role.

Duties

- Support CONARE with functional and administrative support in all durable solutions, integration and public policies related tasks.
- Support Conare providing counselling to, and respond to queries from, asylum seekers and refugees.
- Assist Conare in maintain accurate and up-to date records and data related to all work on individual cases.
- Assist in coordinating with civil society, private sector, academic institutions and other government entities on facilitating the development, implementation and monitoring programs and projects related to durable solutions, integration, and public policies for refugees.
- Draft correspondence and reports relating to the durable solutions and public policies activities.
- Support the monitoring and folow-up on project activities and other actions implemented by CONARE.
- Conduct support missions, as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Relevant Job Experience

Essential
Working experience with public policies, access to rights and projects implementation and monitoring. Knowledge of International Refugee Law and Human Rights Law and ability to apply the relevant legal principles.

Desirable
Previous experience with refugee rights in Brazil. Experience in working with vulnerable or traumatized individuals.
