Job Description

When disasters strike, children are always the most vulnerable. Thatโ€™s why 54 reasons stands ready to deploy, providing immediate psychosocial support and staying as long as it takes to help children and families recover from their losses, restore their lives and build their resilience for years to come. Our Journey of Hope (JoH) program works with children, caregivers and teachers to help them manage the impacts of COVID-19, and is led by facilitators who are professionally trained in managing child trauma.

Our play-based early childhood development and family support program, Play2Learn, works with children and families across Australia where disadvantage may impact their capacity to learn. Based on evidence, we help children develop their social skills, interests and connection with community.

54 reasons is Australiaโ€™s leading child rights organisation โ€“ no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, weโ€™re here to make sure that children have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the childโ€™s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In these casual roles, youโ€™ll backfill the facilitation team as required to deliver the JoH program and Play2Learn program throughout the Southeast Melbourne region. Working in supported playgroups with children aged 0-5, and in primary schools with children aged 5-12, you'll be based in the communities around Doveton (which may include Casey and Dandenong), and will report to our Team Leader. The role is based partly remotely (e.g., from home or on the road, traveling between delivery locations in the region) and partly in playgroup delivery locations and schools.

You will make an impact by:

Supporting the delivery of Journey of Hope sessions as required, together with a Senior Facilitator, to primary school-aged children, as well as running sessions with parents and caregivers Facilitating and supporting Play2Learn playgroup sessions Connecting with local families, building relationships, and supporting them to attend programs Ensuring a high level of health and safety standards are always maintained Ensuring quality service delivery in-line with program guidelines, contractual requirements, and stakeholder expectations

Does this sound like you?

You respond calmly to crisis situations and have credible expertise in working with children who have experienced traumatic events. Your strong interpersonal skills mean youโ€™ll work seamlessly in partnership with a Senior Facilitator, and youโ€™re committed to the highest standards of service delivery. Youโ€™re proactive, creative and flexible in your approach to working with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based framework.

This role requires:

Demonstrated experience in working with children and families who have experienced trauma Experience working in stressful and changing environments High level of communication and organisational skills A degree or diploma qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience Valid driverโ€™s license and willingness to travel in the region to deliver the program
