Background:
NRC has provided first-line humanitarian response since 2021 with multisector activities in shelter, education, livelihoods and food security, and information, counselling and legal assistance. Our focus is on supporting people in hard-to-reach areas, working in partnership with authorities and local actors. We are piloting cash-based interventions with displaced populations living in host communities. NRC offers a comprehensive response for returnees and IDPs of high need, addressing their food security, livelihood, shelter, education, ICLA, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs and also responding to emergencies through NRCโs six core competencies; Shelter, Education, Livelihoods and Food Security, WASH and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) and Protection from Violence.
NRC Somalia is part of NRCโs East & South Africa regional operation which comprises of large-scale multi-country humanitarian and early recovery interventions spread across Ten countries (Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan and Mozambique). ย NRCโs overall strategy in the region is to enhance protection and promote the rights of displaced people in humanitarian need by improving living conditions and seeking durable solutions. The regional office is based in Nairobi and works with country programmes to ensure standardization of programmatic and operational approaches, promote multi-country programming and ensure quality and coordination.
Role Specific Information:
The purposed position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the CC project.ย
Generic responsibilities:
Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management. Ensure proper filing of documents. Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function. Plan and conduct regular school monitoring.ย work with finance and logistics department in timely procurement and delivery of education supplies and other related support services. Design and facilitate Project activities such as training, mobilization of communication and support supervision in the target education centers. Prepare and organize educational meetings, workshops and seminars. Plan and provide educational materials to the target beneficiaries through cash.Specific responsibilities:
Assist the Project team leader in the education project planning and implementation. Work with the Education team, MOE & communities to identify target communities and schools to be supported or withdrew based on the assessment of need in the project operational areas. Organize and lead the mobilization and sensitization campaigns of the target communities. Work with the district education authorities, head teachers, Community Education Committees (CECs) on the enrolment and effective learning of the pupil to the respective education programme in accordance with NRC standards and criteria. Strengthen capacity of communities to identify and address barriers to quality education for the Vulnerable Childrenย Assist the local education authorities in the recruitment of teachers in accordance with the teacherโs selection criteria and regularly update teachersโ payroll for the incentive payment Train, coach CECs, head teachers, and the teachers in the development of School Improvement Plans in collaboration with regional and district education officers. Ensure that education program is implemented in close coordination with MOE and other actors of education projects. Collaborate with other NRC Core competency program activities for synergy in the implementation of project activities. Participate and contribute as necessary towards the Emergency response as and when necessary. Ensure strict compliance with NRC policies, procedures, and relevant donor regulations. Ensure visibility of NRC and donors during the implementation Regularly supervise the teaching and the learning process in all supported schools. Document and share constraints, challenges, gaps, needs, best practice and lessons learnt. Ensure quality and relevant data is collected as required using NRC M&E procedures and tools. Identify operational/technical and management problems arising during the implementation of the project activities to the project team leader.ย ย Education project assistant will be responsible to organize and prepare monthly education in emergency working group coordination meeting in the project target location.Our Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a university graduate in Education (or other relevant), with a minimum of 2 years previous experience in Education projects.
Previous experience working in Somalia.ย ย Technical expertise relevant to the role.ย Documented results related to the positionโs responsibilities.ย ย Fluency in English, both written and verbal.We are particularly looking for a positive individual with strong communication skills, who can build trust and confidently navigate both internally and externally at different levels.

What We Offer:
