The post holder will contribute to enhance ACAPS work by providing data visualisation capacities across the organisation, contributing to the establishment of a data visualisation component as analysis tool and as final product. The selected candidate will produce fit for purpose static and interactive visualizations, including maps, that will help understand and better communicate data and analysis. They will also develop the organisationโs capacity on maps, graphs, and other ad-hoc visual products.. This will ultimately contribute to that ACAPS is perceived as a leading voice on humanitarian needs analysis.ย
Role and responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:ย
Standardise the in-house workflow on production of data visualization products (graphs, maps, dashboards, ad hoc data visualization) Build internal capacity on visualization Develop the most suitable graphic output on request from different teams Ensure that ACAPS maps and graphs convey the message in the most appropriate way and in line with the analysis produced Strengthen relationship with key partnersSpecific responsibilities:ย
1. Lead on in-house data visualization
Optimize the way ACAPS convey its content through a visual interactive format Build and maintain a mapping and data visualization resource library, as well as up-to-date documentation for reference purposes |Harmonisation of templates, colour schemes, and all the necessary tools to produce on-brand visualization (maps, graphs and dashboards) Identify which data visualization tools (mapping software, design and dashboards) best fit the ACAPS needs.2. Ensure effective data visualization production
Design new processes for data visualization Engage with ACAPS analyst to support explorative analysis with visualization Production of data visualization products upon request in a timely manner3. Capacity building

Maintain working relationships and proactively search for opportunities for collaboration across teams as well as externallyย Contribute towards learning and innovation within ACAPS Other relevant duties, as assignedCritical interfaces:
Work closely with the Communications Team and the Data Services Team, and closely coordinates and collaborates with all ACAPS teams and hubs.
Competencies
Qualifications and experience
Relevant university degree or higher education, preferably in Data Visualization, Computer Science, Statistics or other related field.ย 2-3 yearsโ experience in data visualization rolesย Proven experience with end-to-end realization of interactive visualizations and data storytelling projects, in particular scrollytelling and interactive maps Experience from the humanitarian sector desirable Proficiency in English, both verbal and writtenProfessional competencies
Knowledge of CMS systems, such as TYPO3, and programming languages, such as Java, CSS3 Understanding of front-end developer tools (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) Sound knowledge of visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Flourish, Streamlit)ย Good understanding of data visualization processes and workflows with experience in designing and implementing new processes Strong internal and external stakeholder engagement skills Proven high level of expertise in cartography, data visualisation and infographics and related tools High analytical thinking and good understanding of the principles of qualitative and quantitative data and information analysis Attention to detail is critical Understanding of the humanitarian sector and emergency response context is a plus.ย Previous portfolio showcasing mapping and visualisation expertise is an asset. Proficient in custom developing designs, visualisations, and presentations from different type of data and a variety of sources Understanding of good design concepts such as typography, whitespace, and visual hierarchyGeneric competencies
