Job description

The Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) supports sub-Saharan cities in tackling the interconnected challenges of climate change and access to sustainable energy. Under CoM SSA, local authorities are invited to make voluntary political commitments to implement climate and energy actions in their community. The initiative supports its signatories through three pillars: (1) the development of Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAP); (2) technical assistance in the development of infrastructure projects; and (3) city-to-city partnerships for knowledge exchange. The programme is implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the French and Spanish development agencies. GIZ is an experienced service provider and assists the German government in achieving its objectives in international cooperation.

Your tasks

Develop communication products for GIZ to be disseminated through external and internal channels (CoM SSA website, social media, press, videos, written publicationsโ€ฆ) Draft communication materials in English and French, including presentations and visual content Devise new approaches to communication aimed at the initiativeโ€™s target groups, considering its key messages Support CoM SSAโ€™s efforts concerning visibility and dissemination, respecting the guidelines from the European Union and CoM SSAโ€™s Comms and Visibility Plan Support the conceptualization, organization, and execution of both online and in-person events and their related communications Contribute to monitoring activities and the management of the project's information Support internal communication processes and manage content via different tools (MS Teams and others). Preparation, implementation, and documentation of (online) meetings Any other task, following the needs of the project, deemed useful by the focal point of communication to reach the communication goals of CoM SSA.

Your profile

You are studying in the fourth semester or higher in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, Environmental Studies or related fields Proven track record of professional experience in communications, particularly with content creation across different communication channels, including websites, social media, press, videos, and written publications. Editorial experience is a strong asset Prior experience in climate and development cooperation fields, or experience with local administration/cities, is an advantage. Work experience in developing countries (especially in Africa) is a strong asset Excellent command of oral and written English and French Proficient use of the Microsoft Office package (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and MS Teams for internal communications. Additional vocational training and qualifications in communication or graphic design are an asset Self-starter, proactive, with strong attention to detail, and independent work Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working in a multicultural environment.

We pay a monthly stipend of โ‚ฌ1.350,- (gross). Working time will be 38 hours/week.

Candidates must already hold a Belgian work permit, which in case of non-EU nationality must be uploaded when applying.

Please note that the contract will be concluded under Belgian law by means of a โ€˜Convention dโ€™immersion professionelleโ€™ (CIP). This must be approved by the authorities, a process that can take up to 2 weeks.
