Job Description

54 reasons is leading a new Youth Justice Pilot program, aiming to reduce the volume of children and young people aged 10 โ€“ 17 experiencing avoidable short-term remand, in particular the overrepresentation of Aboriginal young people. Where you come in:

In this part-time, permanent position (3 days per week, with potential additional days as required through to June 2024), youโ€™ll work with children, young people and families across the Mobile Youth Outreach service, as components of the Short Term Remand Pilot Project. Youโ€™ll assist in the delivery of mobile programs that provide assertive outreach and after school programming for young people and community events in the Wagga Wagga region. Reporting to the Team Leader, youโ€™ll utilise group facilitation skills and a variety of creative digital technologies from the Mobile Youth Van to meet young people where theyโ€™re at.

You will make an impact by:

Supporting Mobile Youth Outreach programming and community events Providing community-based groupwork and co-facilitating activities Liaising with 54 reasons staff to support referral pathways Providing client transport as required Building meaningful, respectful connections with children, young people and families, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds

Does this sound like you?

Youโ€™re truly passionate about standing up for children and young people. You respond calmly to crisis situations, and your background is in Youth Work, Social Work or a similar field. Your thorough understanding of the impacts of trauma, coupled with your communication and relationship building skills, will enable you to build connections to support children and young people to lead a brighter future. Youโ€™re proactive and creative and comfortable working with young people of all ages. Finally, youโ€™re an independent self-starter who is happy to work remotely when not delivering programs.


This role requires:

Demonstrated experience in working with young people and families who have experienced trauma, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families Knowledge and experience working in the area of Tolland, Wagga Wagga Experience in facilitating training and/or group-based service delivery Cert IV or Diploma level qualifications in Youth Work or a related field, or relevant experience High level of communication and organisational skills Driverโ€™s licence and willingness to drive a van

Required Experience
Prior experience in working with youth in group settings. Knowledge/experience in the programming educational/recreational activities for children and young people. Knowledge/experience working with culturally diverse communities and families, particularly those of refugee and migrant backgrounds. Job Location Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia
