Role and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Protection Case Management Officer, the Protection Case Worker is a member of the NRC protection case management team in the Aden area office. The Protection Case Worker will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of protection case management activities in the designated areas, ensuring adherence to the global protection case management standards. S/he will be responsible for providing direct assistance/support and care to people exposed to or experiencing protection risks/threats, those at heightened risk, and victims of rights violation.ย 

Generic responsibilities:

Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines. Implement delegated duties according to plan of action. Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action. Prepare and develop status reports as required by management. Ensure proper filing of documents.ย  Promote and share ideas that will help NRC respond appropriately.

Specific responsibilities

Individual protection case management

Provide case management services to crisis affected populations in designated areas within acceptable timeframe according to the NRC Yemen Protection Case Management SOPs. Work with identified individuals and families to develop and implement an action plan in accordance with their risks, threats, capacities and goals. Conduct household visits and individual interviews to assess the risks for individuals/ families receiving protection case management services. Identify available services in the designated areas and provide information to individuals and families about their rights and entitlements, including what services are available. Assess risk and support clients in understanding risks relevant to their situation. Lead in the identification, assessment, documentation, referrals (to relevant services) and follow-up of people exposed to or experiencing protection risks/threats, those at heightened risk, and victims of rights violation. Lead in the development and implementation of individual case and safety plans for persons at heightened risk or those experiencing protection risks/threats. Actively participate in case conferences/review meetings for the management of complex cases.ย  Competenciesย

Generic professional competencies:ย 

Ability to work effectively with people from all backgrounds, develop strategies to address barriers faced by individuals most at risk, and identify and address discrimination. Ability to work under stressful conditions, meet deadlines and be detail oriented. Ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as be able to work independently. Good communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel). Demonstrated interest in protection programming.ย  Diploma in Social Works, Social Science, Psychology, Counselling or other related disciplines. Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, respect, and safety of clients and the people we serve always. Diplomatic and able to conduct discussions on sensitive topics with diverse groups. Proactive, flexible, self-driven, creative and co-operative Fluency in Arabic. Knowledge of spoken English an advantage.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:ย 

Demonstrated experience with providing direct support (PFA/PSS, basic counselling, case management) to most at risk individuals or crisis affected population. At least 1-2 years of experience in case management including at least two years of experience in counselling or humanitarian assistance.ย  Experience working directly with crisis affected population in camp or out of camp settings within Aden, Taiz governorates or similar context preferred. Basic understanding and knowledge of case management processes including basic knowledge of case management principles. Experience implementing protection activities in complex and volatile contexts.
