Senior Director, HSPSD(Adv#176/2023)

icddr,b, (formerly the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh),is an international public health research institution based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and has a 60-year history of innovation. Its research agenda, reflects the full spectrum of global health challenges affecting people living in poverty, is articulated in its current Strategic Plan (available at http://www.icddrb.org).

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director, Health Systems and Population Studies Division (HSPSD) will lead and effectively manage a team of researchers to guide and implement a thematic transformative research agenda which currently encompasses the achievement of universal health coverage, examining the health consequences of climate change and the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases.

icddr,b invites applications for the position of Senior Director, Health Systems and Population Studies Division in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include:

Provide strategic leadership for a transformative research agenda addressing the research activities of the Health Systems and Population Studies Division, currently encompassing the achievement of universal health coverage, examining the health consequences of climate change and the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases; Develop and conduct his/her/own externally funded research programme focused on health systems in Bangladesh; Ensure that the research conducted by Division is translated to influence national and global policies on universal health coverage, climate change and health and prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases; Build sustainable relationships with the international and national health systems and research community so as to support strong practice-oriented health systems research; Provide mentorship for educational development and scientific professional up-gradation of the division staff; Provide oversight of the administrative and fiscal operation of the division; Ensure that the research of the Division is internationally competitive and supported by external funding; Ensure the leading role of the division in all health systems related research activities within the Centre; Work closely with other Senior Division Directors to develop inter-divisional, multidisciplinary collaborations that take advantage of the facilities and expertise of icddr,b.

Required Skills and Experiences

Education:

Doctorate in relevant scientific discipline (Health Systems, International Health, Health Services Research, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Medicine, Public Policy, Epidemiology or Biostatistics).

Experience:

Minimum 15 years of experience in the role of a senior level in health system research Strong publication record, in international scientific journals in relevant field Strong track record of receiving external financial support for his/her research

Others

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential Demonstrated leadership ability and team management

Compensation:

This is an internationally recruited position for which icddr,b offers internationally competitive remuneration at UN equivalent D1 level paid in US Dollars. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract of 3 years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Funds are also available for startup research.
