Job Title: Protection Team Leader

Duty Station: : Red Sea/Port Sudan (Roving to other DRC project areas)

DRC has been present in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Kassala, and Khartoum states. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, the Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen, and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

About the job

Under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager, the Protection Team Leader is responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of quality front line protection activities in the assigned area of responsibility. The Protection TL is expected to develop positive relationships with individual beneficiaries, community mobilizers and focal points and other stakeholders so as to ensure to the efficiency of DRCโ€™s outreach strategy and overall intervention.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Programme

Lead the planning and implementation of programme activities related to front line protection intervention. To this end, support the Protection manager in producing and updating monthly workplans and implement programme activities accordingly and supervise the protection officers/ assistants . Lead the protection monitoring activities, data analysis and trangulation, working closely with PIMO in producing the monitoring reports including snapshots monthly, quarterly reports and RPAs as per DRC SOPs. Supervise and coordinate the quality provision of PFA, running of protection desk and community safe space and individual protection assistance in line with global SOPs and standards, with the support of the Protection Specialist and Protection Manager. Support in developing tools, forms and SOPs related to protection activities, in collaboration with the Protection Specialist and the Protection Manager. Comply with applicable professional standards related to protection and humanitarian interventions. Identify capacity-building needs among the protection team and community stakeholders (including community mobilizers) and facilitate tailored capacity-building sessions accordingly. Conduct trainings to partners on protection mainstreaming and to communities on community based protection networks Supporting Emergency Team Leader in the overall planning activities relevant to his/her field of work, including Participating in beneficiary selection processes through agreed criteria and guidelines to identify vulnerable/Protection cases and refer them for special assistance. Ensure the protection is mainstreamed while DRC teams providing assistnace to the affected population including distributions of cash-NFIs- etc. Ensure that individuals in need of protection services and/or assistance, identified through outreach and other activities, are timely and adequately referred to the relevant services. Conduct regular and systematized follow-up of all referred cases to ensure adequate service provision, reassess needs and potentially identify any new trends. Support and coordinate information dissemination, awareness and capacity-building activities with communities on protection risks, on rights and on available services among others, in safe and suitable locations. Conduct any other programme activities related to the provision of protection services and assistance as instructed by the Protection Manager and Protection SpecialIst. Ensure proper documentation of protection activities data and information, adhering to the confidentiality principle. Ensure to abide by all information, data -sharing protocols in place.

Monitoring and Reporting

Produce quality and acurate protection monitoring reports, and RPAs, and supporting documentation on IPA, PFA, and referrals activities and ensure their timely submission to the Protection Manager and PIMO for review and internal information sharing. To this end, ensure that both the hard and soft copies of all activity reports are safely archived. Overall, effectively use the tools and comply with the processes related to monitoring and reporting, including through the use of shared drive and dedicated platforms for information management.

Representation and coordination

Represent DRC and the programme towards a wide range of stakeholders including individual beneficiaries, community mobilizers, community-based structuresโ€™ members and focals points, LNGOs, INGOs and govermental authorities To this end, ensure professional standards and transparent communication in the external representation of the organization so as to build trust and ensure effective collaboration with all concerned stakeholders. Ensure that all interactions with individual beneficiaries take place in an environment and in a way that respect and promote the individualsโ€™ safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work.

Operations support

Support the coordination of programme support activities as they relate to logistics, administration or security as relevant, under the guidance and supervision of the Protection Manager and in coordination with the relevant departments. Comply with all relevant internal policies and directives. Prepare all necessary documentation for each activity (including weekly vehicle movement plans, order requests, payment requests, etc.) and for the reconciliation of the money spent during each activity Help prepare terms of reference and safety plans for mission planning.

Minimum Qualification, Skills, and Experience Required:

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, social sciences, human rights, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization. Proven experience in the provision of psychosocial support and protection monitoring activities. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility, and communication skills. Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, work independently, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail. Flexibility in working overtime and in challenging environments. Willing to collaborate with and support people from different ethnic groups and religions. Demonstrated interest in humanitarian work and supporting people affected by conflict and displacement.

University Degree in the field of social sciences, humanitarian affairs, international law, development, or any other related field.

Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic, speaks fur language.
