JOB PURPOSE

Marsabit County is the largest county in Kenya, spanning 70,961 square kilometres, sharing borders with Ethiopia and neighbouring counties like Turkana, Wajir, Isiolo, and Samburu. Its capital is Marsabit, with a population of 459,785 according to the 2019 census, 77 percent of whom live in the vast rural countryside. It is part of the approximately 80% of the countryโ€™s landmass classified as arid and semi-arid land (ASAL) where the primary livelihood is predominantly pastoralism with the subsidiary being agro-pastoralism.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme and in coordination with the programme staff, the Intern will be responsible for the following tasks.

Support programme leads in coordinating, planning, and implementing planned activities as per the annual work plan and other existing strategic plans. Support programmes lead in planning, coordinating, and implementing youth in agri-business activities in close collaboration with the relevant County Government departments. Support implementation of Anticipatory Actions activities in accordance with agreements, work plans, deliverables, and timelines. Support the capacity-strengthening initiatives in the areas of Emergency Preparedness and Response, Climate change adaptation, School meals/Early Childhood Education and Nutrition in liaison with County Government and targeted participants. Support the implementation of nutrition treatment programmes in liaison with the County Government. Support periodic FSCs, MSMEs, SHFs and FOโ€™s information and data collection, consolidation, and management, ensuring the database is up to date with relevant information. Following up with the relevant partners for timely preparation and submission of food and non-food items distribution plans and ensuring timely review and action. Participate in the development and drafting of notes for records, admin notes and project concept notes under the guidance of the relevant programme staff. Supporting the program team in process monitoring to inform decision-making and ensure meeting quarterly targets. Ensure all relevant programme documents are appropriately filed to ensure a safe and secure information repository as per the organisation's requirements. Support programme leads in notes and minute-taking during key internal and external meetings. Actively participate in programme meetings at various levels for updates, reporting and learning. Contribute to the drafting of bi-weekly, monthly, and periodic reports as required and submitting them to the relevant staff or review. Periodically review the annual work plan to assess activity implementation progress to update the programme team and take necessary action to fast-track delivery. Support in budget expenditure tracking and appropriately documenting to inform decision-making. Perform other assigned duties as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Currently enrolled in the University and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme within the last 6 months from a university in agriculture & food systems, climate change, livestock, rural development, environment and natural resource management, watershed management, economics, fisheries, Range management, Agric economics, environment & community development, social science with a relevant focus or another relevant technical field.

Language : Fluency in written and spoken English.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment. WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs. WFP will recognize candidatesโ€™ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education. The internship duration is 8 months, full-time.
