UNHCR UAE primarily represents UNHCR to the government of the UAE, the media and other stakeholders. UNHCR internships are highly prized and provide a unique opportunity to work within the United Nations system and also on one of the most important global issues of today.
The Private Partnerships and Philanthropy unit (PPH) division in MENA is primarily focused on raising funds and awareness from the private sector across the MENA region. This is done both online and offline and with a wide range of partners to include high-net-worth individuals, corporations and
foundations. PSP focuses on advocating for refugees and other people of concern using multiple channels of engagement, such as digital and direct relationship management.
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate, with a commitment to refugee issues and a desire to develop their skills and experience in donor relations, fundraising and communications. All candidates should be computer literate, as well as have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all
times. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and attention to detail are essential.
The position
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player with a strong interest in partnerships, CSR, media, policy and refugee and displacement issues to complete a three-months internship with UNHCR UAE.
The candidate will work closely with the private sector partnerships team. Liaising with UNHCRโs wider networks, you will support the development of UNHCRโs image, agenda, and compliance across the organization, and will play your part in achieving UNHCRโs strategic ambitions; contributing to the protection of people forced to flee.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of Private Sector Partnerships Officer, the main tasks of the PPH Intern will be the following:
โข Provide research on potential donors in particular High Net-worth individuals
(HNWIs), and support in developing engagement strategies.
โข Initiate fundraising activities and conduct the needed research around these activities.
โข Keep the UAE partnerships team updated about the latest refugee crisis
developments.
โข Support in organizing fundraising events, conferences and related fundraising offline activities.
โข Support in drafting concept notes, reports, and agreements.
โข Support partnership managers in preparing the necessary research and materials for upcoming meetings with prospects and existing donors; and follow up on meetingsโ outcomes and due tasks.
โข Creating a comprehensive calendar to map out events, conferences, exhibits, etc... to network and connect with prospect donors.
โข Utilizing social media to update the team about the latest developments for strategic partners and identify opportunities of engagement.
โข Providing administrative support as required.
โข Other tasks as required.
Minimum qualifications required and professional experience required In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โข Strong verbal communication and writing skills in English and Arabic.
โข Strong computer skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, graphic design is
preferred).
โข Strong understanding of the corporate landscape in the UAE.
โข Strong passion for refugee and displacement issues.
โข Awareness of humanitarian affairs and good writing skills.
โข Attention to detail and a results-oriented team player.
โข Have excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
โข Ability to work as part of a team.
โข Efficiency and time management skills.
Location:
The successful candidate will be based with the team in Dubai, UAE.
Eligibility
โข Be a recent graduate (graduated within 2 years from the time of application) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO;
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
โข Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
Conditions
The internship is for three months with the start date being on 01 April 2024. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (with 30 mins lunch break) Monday through Thursday & 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (no lunch break) on Friday.
The selected candidate will have to arrange for their own residency visa in Dubai. Candidates who are nationals are highly encouraged to apply. Kindly mention your residency status in the application.
Recruitment as a UNHCR staff member and engagement under a UNHCR affiliate scheme or as an intern is subject to proof of vaccination against Covid-19.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
