Job Description

Across North Queensland, children are facing more and more challenges to their development. At 54 reasons in Ayr, we provide critical support to these vulnerable families. Through a variety of programs and the facilitation of community events, youโ€™ll provide professional support to families with complex needs. This is your chance to help children reach their potential and truly thrive.

54 reasons is Australiaโ€™s leading child rights organisation โ€“ no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, weโ€™re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the childโ€™s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, permanent position (30 hours per week, Monday to Thursday), youโ€™ll work across our Family Support and Play2Learn programs in Ayr. Youโ€™ll co-ordinate the planning, implementation and review of culturally appropriate developmental play and learning experiences for children and will provide support and information to parents on developmental issues and make appropriate referrals to other health, education and welfare agencies. As a member of our North Queensland team, youโ€™ll report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

Providing group and individual support to families from a child centred approach Developing strong local community networks with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and being an enthusiastic advocate for our programs Supporting families to access the assistance they need, when they need it Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached or fearful families to engage with our programs Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation and reporting

Does this sound like you?

Youโ€™re a passionate family support practitioner, and you enjoy working with families and children from different walks of life, with complex and challenging needs. Youโ€™re highly independent and autonomous, with a large amount of self-motivation to drive your work in a regional program. Importantly, your exceptional cultural knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

This role requires:

Minimum Diploma qualification in a relevant field such as Social Work or similar would be preferred or relevant experience Well-developed time management, organisational and data collection skills Proven understanding of child development stages and influences Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build lasting connections Driverโ€™s licence
