Organizational Setting of the Consultancy:
This position is located within the Media and Communications Branch and directly reports to the Head of Multimedia. The Multimedia team is responsible for high quality professional production and distribution of photo and video communications assets. These assets are featured on all global digital channels for UNFPA including unfpa.org, global social media channels, external digital media outlets and traditional media channels. The Multimedia team provides normative guidance and technical advice to country offices, regional offices and other divisions within the organization. The team is also responsible for the digital asset management (DAM) system supporting the entire organization, including maintenance, oversight, training and assets distribution.

Purpose of consultancy:
The DAM Manager is responsible for maintenance and management of the UNFPAโ€™s Digital Asset Management system โ€“ The Multimedia Hub - and all associated workflows and training requirements. Assets include high resolution photography, video, brand materials and publications from MCB, other HQ Divisions, Country Offices and Regional Offices. The DAM manager is also responsible for archiving and cataloguing the audio-visual library for UNFPA NYHQ.

Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks:
The DAM manager will:

Manage the Digital Asset Management system with robust and secure permissions and access for a wide range of use cases. Quality control content uploaded to the DAM in line with UNFPAโ€™s ethical and editorial guidelines. Acquire, manage and store consent in line with data protection requirements. Train staff and vendors on metadata standards, imaging requirements and digital delivery. Provide detailed and continued admin support including permissions management, account approvals and security profile updates. Work with country offices and regional offices for delivery and distribution of assets, including in a rapid onset emergency. Process and upload all submissions, including providing support with caption writing. Create folders and distribution packages in collaboration with the multimedia and media team for news alerts and media pitches. Manage the structure of the DAM, homepage and user journey, including any developments. Create custom user roles, workflows, processes and automations to maximise the efficiency and scope of the UNFPAโ€™s DAM for administrative users of the system, end users throughout the organisation and external users. Test prototype versions of software and identify new functionality which will be useful to UNFPAโ€™s requirements. Manage vendor relations and identify and research need for new vendors when required e.g. keywording vendor when asset flow grows. Create, test and update end user and admin training documentation and guidelines. Monitor and report on DAM metrics, incorporating user and admin feedback in order to audit system performance. Continue to develop data and software to reflect the growth of the platform, including APIs and keywording/ taxonomies. Work with Orange Logic to maintain the system and to ensure the timely resolution of support tickets and to upgrade the software, including mobile site and UIUX improvements

Education: An advanced university degree in Information Science or related field is required. *A first-level university degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience managing DAM platforms is required. Demonstrable experience with large DAM systems, including technical expertise; Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in coordinating multimedia DAM systems including web, database, API, taxonomy and related components; Experience organizing and maintaining non-book libraries and special archives online; Knowledge of information management and cataloguing standards; Understanding of both the challenges of changing working practices around assets and the people challenges of the same; Evidence of strong communication skills with team members; Experience in directing teams who deliver technical training and technical customer support; Demonstrable experience working with taxonomies and metadata; Knowledge of international documentary media standards and practices an asset; Excellent skills in planning communications; Evidence of ability to build good customer relationships with stakeholders; Publishing industry preferred; Knowledge of the Orange Logic Cortex DAM platform strongly preferred; Knowledge of photography applications Photo Mechanic, Adobe Bridge, and Photoshop an asset. Excellent organizational skills.
