Job description

The project is part of the Sustainable Economic Cluster and focuses primarily on digital transformation, innovation and entrepreneurship. The University of Lagos is a key partner of the project. It has an established National Information Technology Development Agency Information and communications technology Hub, which aims to drive talent discovery and up-skilling, innovation, product development, cooperation and closer linkages with Nigerian and international digital innovation ecosystem stakeholders.

Your tasks

As part of your service as a development worker, you will take on the following tasks:

Drive technology and digital innovation projects, from research and development and prototyping to development and implementation Work with the hub’s community to identify opportunities for digital transformation and develop strategies to leverage the latest technologies Develop Minimum Viable Products addressing local/global challenges by leveraging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, 3D-Printing and Artificial intelligence (AI) Contribute to upskilling of talents within the hub community on the use and practical applications of digital technologies such as IoT, Robotics, AI and Blockchain Develop formal documentation on processes, procedures, and best practices employed in carrying out their duties, and generate regular reports on activities

Your profile

University degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields Several years of experience in digital innovation, digital transformation, or related fields and delivering capacity development training activities Demonstrable experience with digital technologies such as AI, IoT, Robotics, and 3D-Printing Strong knowledge of Fablab operations and digital technologies such as CAD, 3D-printing, Laser cutting, CNC machining etc and proven experience with digital hardware prototyping and solutions development Professional experience and relevant expertise in the management of stakeholders, partnerships and networks as well as in innovation promotion Experience abroad in the field of development/ international cooperation, ideally in Africa and experience in working in intercultural contexts and gender equality Strong teamwork and networking skills, communication, presentation and facilitation skills, and a high degree of self-organisation, flexibility and creativity Business fluent in English, fluency in German is an advantage

Nigeria is Africa’s leading country in Digital Innovation, with most activity to be found in Lagos. Lagos is a dynamic city, with international standard medical care, schools and a wide array of leisure activities. Lagos experiences tropical climate. The wet season starts in March and ends in October. Located near the equator, Lagos has only a slight seasonal temperature variation, with mean high temperatures ranging from 28.3 to 32.9 °C. Lagos shares the seasons of the Southern Hemisphere, with the highest temperatures in March and least hot temperatures in August.

The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times.
