Staff within the Science Facilitation Department of FHI 360 provide leadership and operations support for the NIH-funded International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Network, a multinational, clinical research consortium. The team is responsible for contributing to and supporting the development, implementation and reporting of all Network clinical research studies and central communications.
The Communications Specialist will assist in the creation and delivery of memorandums, organizational materials and announcements, events and other deliverables pertaining to communications for the Network. This individual will:
Develop and deliver clear, concise, and coordinated organizational messaging across multiple communication vehicles including print, email, website, and social media platforms,
Serve as project manager for assigned projects, ensuring quality and smooth production from start to finish of project,
Assist study managers, community program managers, and Network leadership on applicable deliverables, and
Support planning and coordination of Network meetings and events through development and distribution of meeting communications, speaker support, social media and other tasks.
Accountabilities:
Researches, writes, and edits a broad range of health communications which promote the central and study-specific activities of the Network.
Develops and implements communications strategies for research design and outcomes to inform various scientific and lay audiences of Network studies.
Prepares a variety of promotional and informational materials including newsletters, articles, bulletins, website content, pamphlets, press releases, FAQs, and other related media material.
Provides consultative review and editing of communications materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity of message and tone.
Applies understanding of Network operations to improve materialโs depth and relevance to target audience.
Monitors and reports to leadership on Network presence in the media.
Creates and maintains accurate and current Network and study specific overview materials.
Works closely with leadership to keep abreast of Network developments and needs.
Works with event planning team to organize and plan hybrid annual meetings; delivering communications and messaging about the event, supporting stakeholder engagement, and assisting with event strategy and execution.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in Science, English, Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, or related field.
5+ years of writing, editing, or publications experience.
Ability to understand scientific data and be able to translate and communicate accurately in written documents.
Able to articulately, positively, and professionally communicate with clients and staff. Fluency in English required.
Prior experience in a clinical research or public health setting preferred.
Strong, publication-ready, writing skills.
Creative, innovative, detail-oriented, and able to synthesize various ideas and nuances.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects to meet short deadlines.
Ability to work nimbly across multiple teams concurrently.
Expertise in Microsoft Office.
Experience with audio-visual technology, event planning, and/or stage management preferred.
Photography and/or videography skills a plus.
Some graphic design experience, including familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is preferred.
Technology to be Used:
Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.
US Based Hiring Salary Range: $75,000 - $93,000
International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
