Position Description:
The SBC Technical Officer will be a mid-level member of the project team. Under the oversight of the SBC Technical Advisor, the SBC Technical Officer provides technical expertise to support the implementation, monitoring, and sustainability of SBC interventions. The role focuses on strengthening LSPs, community structures, and stakeholders to sustain long-term behavior change. The officer collaborates with provincial and district stakeholders to align strategies, document lessons, and enhance community ownership of SBC efforts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Support & Capacity Building
Implement and adapt the SBC strategy to sustain behavior change.
Train and mentor LSPs to enhance their role as behaviour change agents.
Conduct results-based monitoring to assess SBC impact and recommend improvements.
2. Work Planning & Coordination
Develop and track district-level work plans to align with sustainability objectives.
Participate in quarterly review meetings and contribute to adaptive learning.
Represent the program in technical forums and ensure SBC integration.
3. Documentation & Learning
Capture lessons learned, success stories, and emerging trends to inform SBC improvements.
Conduct pause-and-reflect sessions to enhance adaptive programming.
Compile quarterly and annual reports ensuring alignment with program goals.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
Engage government, private sector, and community partners to reinforce SBC sustainability.
Track policy influence and advocacy efforts related to behavior change.
Liaise with and manage partner organizations involved in country program activities and assist in the implementation of project activities.
5. Women, Girls and Boys Empowerment
Ensure SBC interventions address gender and social barriers affecting adoption.
Work with Youth teams to integrate youth and marginalized groups into SBC efforts.
Other assigned tasks that support the SBC Technical Advisor to successfully complete FHI 360 workplan activities.
Minimum Requirements:
3-5 years of experience in implementing and managing international health/development, demand generation, marketing, social and behavior change programs and projects in developing countries, with experience working in Zimbabwe.
Specific Knowledge Requirements:
Strong understanding of current state of agricultural industry and market in nutrition-sensitive agriculture food marketing with knowledge of state-of-the-art social and behavior change communication models and strategies and their practical application to improving consumer demand for nutritious food products and/or nutrition.
Knowledge of evidence-based, innovative, and practical solutions to communication challenges in developing countries.
Field experience in developing and implementing SBC projects and programs in Zimbabwe and/or other African countries that have demonstrated impact, at scale.
Understanding of widely accepted formative research, pretesting, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective demand generation, marketing and SBC interventions.
Understanding of capacity strengthening strategies and approaches to develop and strengthen SBC knowledge, ability, and skills among a wide array of technical staff.
Demonstrated strong technical, programming, and management skills.
Proven ability to work as an effective team member
Proven ability to work independently by setting own milestones and completed assigned tasks
Excellent oral/written communication skills in English and one or more local languages. Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills, and experience working in collaboration with the private sector, government, partners, donors, and NGOs.
Ability to set priorities while multi-tasking and meet deadlines.
