Work LocationVienna, Austria Expected duration27 Jun - 31 Dec 2024 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is devoted to ensuring States have the tools, expertise and commitment to effectively prevent and respond to trafficking in persons (TIP) and smuggling of migrants (SOM). The UNODC Action against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling, implemented by UNODCโ€™s Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section, aims to address these crimes. The UNODC Action against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling is the main vehicle for the substantive servicing by the Section of UN bodies and organs, various UN and other international processes as well as the delivery of technical cooperation to partner countries. TIP and SOM are high on the agendas of governments and donors worldwide. These crimes are major topics of interest within the United Nations family, as well as media outlets and the general public. UNODC has longstanding experience in advocacy work towards promoting anti-human trafficking and migrant smuggling initiatives. In recent years, it has carried out several awareness-raising campaigns. The UNODC Action aims to become the world's leading voice and source of information on these crimes, and this requires communication products. The purpose of the assignment is to support the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section with the creation and development of communication and visibility products for the UNODC Action Programme. Writing articles and web stories will be an essential part of the role, alongside contributing to the HTMSS monthly newsletter and managing the HTMSS website. The position also requires undertaking graphic design for HTMSS products and publications while developing ICAT's new branding. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, economic, public relations, development studies or social sciences is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of two years of professional experience in communications, journalism, copy writing, research or other related area is required; Good communication skills including the ability to write clearly and concisely in English are required; Experience within the UN system or similar international organisations is desirable. Experience in working on trafficking in persons or smuggling of migrants issues is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (i.e., oral and written proficiency and excellent drafting skills) is required. Knowledge of other official UN languages is an advantage.
