About this position

The IDB Group is looking to hire a consultant to support the Climate Change Division (CSD/CCS) Senior Specialist in Barbados in the execution and design of climate change and biodiversity activities in alignment with the countryโ€™s commitments under their NDC and NBSAP.

Consistent with the increasing demand for Multilateral Development Banks to support the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and of the Paris Agreement commitments, the Inter-American Development Bank Group (โ€œIDB Groupโ€) is committed to increase its technical and financial support for the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries to conceive more sustainable infrastructure.

You will work for the Climate Change Division (โ€œCSD/CCSโ€), which is part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (โ€œCSDโ€). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support: (i) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the actions and operations of the IDB Group and (ii) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the regional countries of the IDB Group through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels.

What youโ€™ll do

The consultant will be assigned to the Barbados Country Office (CBA). The objective of the consultancy is to assist the Division Chief and provide support in all technical and administrative activities:

ยทSupport all climate change mainstreaming activities in the CBA office, including ensuring all loans, guarantees, investments grants and grants are consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement and contribute to Barbadosโ€™ Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

ยทContribute to the priorities set by the Government of Barbados (GoB) to operationalize green procurement and climate and biodiversity budget tagging.

ยทEnhance the support provided to the GoB on their Blue Economy Agenda and seek new opportunities for dialogue and collaboration with other agencies, academia, and civil society.

ยทSupport the team in advancing the agenda on sustainable development and climate change with stakeholders in government, private sector, civil society, and international development partners.

ยทProvide technical input to the design, preparation and implementation of operations and climate-related non-financial products across a variety of sectors in Barbados that respond to country and stakeholder needs.

ยทParticipate in IDB projects including adaptation/mitigation components, providing inputs in the stages of design, structuring and implementation.

ยทProvide support to project teams in the application of the Joint MDB Assessment Framework for Paris Alignment and IDB Groupโ€™s own implementation approach of Paris Alignment in its operations and linking this assessment with the potential for climate finance, green finance, and nature-positive investments.

ยทCollaborate and coordinate with stakeholders, executing agencies and other IDB departments.

ยทCoordinate logistics and develop materials to support IDB Group training in the country office regarding climate change.

ยท Provide assistance in the edition, review and approval of Terms of Reference, invoices and other administrative documents.

ยท Communications and design of dissemination material.

ยทSupport any other related activities required by the Senior Climate Change specialist in CBA.

What you'll need

ยท Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Public policy, Environmental Studies, Biology, Marine Conservation, or any other related field.

ยท Experience: At least 2 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in office support related activities are required. Experience in an international/multilateral organization is a plus.

ยท Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Requirements

Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Barbados or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Barbados.

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
