Job Summary:

The Principal Digital Designer will serve as the creative lead for key digital projects and proposals. Will collaborate closely with both clients and the Design Lab leadership and will be responsible for doing audience research, establishing UX journey, designing website layouts and providing creative direction to consultants and junior designers. In addition to digital products, this role will also serve as a multidisciplinary designer as needed supporting a wide range of print, presentation and web-based communication materials with an emphasis on user experience. Typical projects include project-based and enterprise service websites, infographics, publications, logos, brochures, training curricula, kits, posters, social media graphics, PowerPoint presentations and HTML emails. These products will be part of the organizationโ€™s work in areas as health, education, civil society, environment, economic development and research.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the development of high-profile digital projects and proposals, including project planning and budget responsibility.

  • Estimate level of effort for both digital tasks from start to finish as well as graphic production for potential new projects.

  • Work with the client on web design, content strategy, and presentation.

  • Communicate changes/updates to content to the client and users.

  • Help shape strategic messaging for communication materials.

  • Conceptualize and develop communication materials in response to the clientโ€™s

  • communication goals.

  • Meet all deadlines and work within budget parameters.

  • Provide strategic design strategies for key internal stakeholders and to business partners.

  • Must be able to communicate the recommended methods and value of an approach to get buy in with partners.

  • Articulate the rationale behind design solutions in client presentations and correspondence.

  • Review work and provide creative direction to consultants and junior staff.

  • Design web-based communication (i.e. HTML emails).

  • Create infographics, diagrams and illustrations.

  • Input revisions efficiently and accurately.

  • Prepare mock-ups and comps for presentations.

  • Write/review print specifications, prepare print-ready files as needed and work with print vendors. Review and advise on production projects.

  • Appraise art directors, project managers, and/or vendors about project milestones.

  • Collaborate with clients, build rapport, and nurture productive professional working relationships through the course of the project.

  • Contribute to business development activities.

  • Proactively offer input on improving technical or procedural processes, quality and departmental best practices.

  • Review and approve proofs to ensure complete accuracy before files go to print.

  • Continuously improve technical and conceptual design skills.

  • Maintain archive of projects following the established file structure and organization

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
